助记提示

1. crease => *creast => crest.
2. crest => *creast => crease.
3. grease => crease: 脂肪太多,赘肉都一叠一叠地折叠着垂下。
4. 谐音“裤内折(多音字,这里将其念着:she, 折本的“折”)、裤蕾折(多音字,这里将其念着:she, 折本的“折”)”-------裤子的蕾丝边折了,有折痕。
5. creek, creep, crook, crumple => a widespread group of Germanic kr- words meaning "bent, hooked" => cr- + ease (放松的、松弛的) => crease: 非常放松的、松弛的而导致的弯曲而形成的折痕、皱纹。相反地不松弛,而是拉得很紧的话,显然就不会形成折痕。
6. 区别:crease, cease: 有一句著名的诗词说得非常好“有花堪折直须折,莫待无花空折枝”,通过这句诗词就可以非常形象地区分开这两个单词。

英文词源

crease
crease: [15] Crease and crest are ultimately the same word. The ridges produced by creasing cloth were regarded as similar to ridges or crests, and so the word crease (often creast in late Middle English) came to be applied to them. The loss of the final -t may have been due to the mistaken analysis of creast or crest as the past form of a verb.
=> crest
crease (n.)
1660s, altered from creaste "a ridge," perhaps a variant of crest (n.), via meaning "a fold in a length of cloth" (mid-15c.) which produced a crest. In sports, first in cricket (1779), where it was originally cut into the ground. As a verb, from 1580s. Related: Creased; creasing.
