On Students Selecting Lecturers

参考范文:

On Students Selecting Lectures

At present, as educational reform finds its way into campuses, some universities and colleges begin to permit students to select their lecturers freely.

Students base their selection on a great variety of factors. For some, the first thing they bear in mind is if the professor excels at his or her field and conveys his or her idea with humor and passion, etc. For others, the crucial factor is that if the teacher is mild in grading their essays or papers.

The strengths of selecting your favorite teacher on a free market are that the best teachers potential could be fully made use of and students could find more enjoyment in their study. The weakness, however, is that teachers who hand out higher marks maybe popular with some students, which will definitely have negative impacts.

1、许多人喜欢看cctv 春节晚会;2、但有的人认为应该取消; 3、你的看法

  参考范文:

It has been a hot topic for a long time whether the CCTV Spring Festival Gala should be cancelled or not. Many people advocate that CCTV Spring Festival Gala offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this traditional festival, for the Chinese all over the world can share the same happiness and excitement brought by the TV program. In addition, many performances are very impressive, and some can even positively affect our life value.

However, every coin has two sides. Some people hold that CCTV Spring Festival Gala should be cancelled. One of the most significant reasons may be that this form of celebration force people to spend the eve more passively. What’s more, a great proportion of the programs are not attractive enough.

As to me, my favor goes to the former opinion, because spring CCTV Spring Festival Gala gives us another option to celebrate this important moment. But it is really essential to improve the quality of the programs. And I hope some better forms of celebration will be created in the near future.

Elective courses to choose

With the remarkable educational reform and the increasing students’ demand, universities strive to offer a variety of elective courses for students to choose. Some higher institutes provide the optional course of cross-cultural communication, and some colleges have computer science on the curriculum of elective courses

There are numerous reasons for students’ selection of the courses, and I would like to explore a few of the most significant ones here. In the first place, students tend to take personal interest into consideration when they opt for an elective course. Possibly, that’s why cross-cultural communication course is so prevailing on campus. Additionally, some undergraduates attend certain optional courses for their career prospects and future development. Last but not least, to make up for their required credits is another universal reason as students select a course at random.

As far as I am concerned, picking up an elective course, I am inclined to give priority to personal interest. I am taking geographic research and discovery course in that I’ve been greatly keen on science since I was a kid.

Recreational Activities

In the era of information and technology, there are all kinds of recreational activities. Some people think those recreational activities are great and necessary, because they can help people relax from the hard work and study. Some of the activities, such as hiking, jogging, can help people relax physically; while some of them, such as surfing the Internet, can help people relax mentally.

However, some people think that so many kinds of recreational activities may have a bad effect on our lives. Some people may not resist some temptations from those activities, and indulge themselves in those activities. At last they are lured away from their study or their work.

In my opinion, we should pay more attention to the advantages of various recreational activities and make the most of them. Meanwhile, we should learn how to use those activities positively, and make them a helpful tool for our development.

Disposable Plastic Bags

Nowadays we may find ourselves surrounded by a sea of disposable plastic bags. And recently the problems of using disposable plastic bags have been brought into people’s focus.

First of all, the use of disposable plastic bags causes irreversible harm to our environment. As these bags are not biodegradable, they are blocking the drainage system and causing water pollution.

What’s more, customers using disposable plastic bags may think that they are of great convenience. But what they don’t quite realize is that there will be remarkable negative impact on our health. And sometimes careless disposal of these bags may even poison some innocent animals.

In view of the severity of this issue, effective measures have been taken in our country. There has been a strict limit on the using of disposable plastic bags in supermarkets, which not only enhances people’s awareness on environmental protection but also cuts down the cost of the running of supermarkets.

It is well known that a museum is a building to display a collection of artistic, historical, cultural or military objects. ndoubtedly museums can have a variety of purposes in the city; I think two roles the museums play can illustrate they areworth visiting.

Now we talk about how to fund a museum. A museum can never be considered as a financial burden to society. I suggest that the Government should invest a small amount of money on advertisements for the museums in the city. For example, ads of the museums should be forwarded on the travel brochures or maps of the city. Consequently tourists come and admission tickets are collected. Both reputation and funds are earned. Conclusion (23 words) In brief, museums should play a role as an instructive means of the city and incomes from admission can keep them running properly.

1.建设绿色校园十分重要

2.2.绿色校园不仅指绿色环境

3.3.为了建设绿色校园我们应该

It is of great importance to make and maintain a green campus in our university or college. Obviously, a growing number of people are beginning to realize that it is our duty to do that in the present days, since the concept of “a green world” has become the focus of the society.

The idea of “a green campus” is beyond a green environment. To begin with, the development on the campus is to be sustainable and recyclable. Some of the authorities’ budget should be on how to reduce of the waste. What’s more, we’d better be aware of the seriousness of pollution around us. Thus the idea of environmental protection may become a common occurrence in our daily life.

It is necessary that effective actions should be taken to protect our campus from waste and pollution, and hence these activities are to play an increasingly important role in our day-to-day life. Certainly, there is little doubt that further consideration must be paid to our green campuses.

2. 我对这一现象的看法

【范文】

Recently it has become a common phenomenon for college students to have two majors at the same time. In this way, they can get double BA degrees when they graduate from the university several years later.

Although it may bring unfavorable consequences, we can be sure to conclude that this practice is favorable on the whole. To begin with, most students will become more hardworking and efficient in order to finish the learning tasks satisfactorily. Moreover, with two degrees at hand after graduation, they will stand a better chance in the job market full of fierce competition. In the third place, as for today's university students, tuition and fees are becoming more and more expensive. If they can make achievements in study at school and find a satisfactory job afterwards, it will not be a big problem.

Weighing the pros and cons of such a new trend, we can naturally arrive at the conclusion that it is beneficial and rewarding. This system not only compels students to work hard, but also prepares them for the coming competition.

How should Parents Help Children to Be independent?

1、 目前不少父母为孩子包办一切

2、 为了孩子独立,父母应该……

范文如下:

How should parents help children to be independent?

Nowadays, there’s an increasing number of household in China that has an only one child. Most of parents Love and care for children so much that children has less chances to deal with problems by themselves. Consequently, children get used to depending on their parents in everything and lack of ability to solve problems independently, which is bad for their growing.

There are some effective ways for parents to help their children be independent. To start with, parents should give their children more chances to experience the world and life around them. Thus their children can enhance the capability to overcome the difficulties and handle problems independently. In addition, parents should offer enough assistance when their children need some instructions and advices. In this way, they depend on their parents in a right way and can solve problems independently when they face the same one next time. Last but not least, parents should allow their children to make decisions independently. Children would improve the ability to deal with the problems they are confronted with in their life.

From the above discussion, I strongly believe that parent should help their children be independent by instructing them in a proper way rather than planning and considering everything for them. It’s children who decide their future and fate, so it would be beneficial for them to live independently with some proper instructions of their parents

How Should Parents Help Children to Be Independent?
It is nothing unusual to find overprotective parents who help their children in all aspects of life. The question is, are they sure their heart loaded with love will bring good to their children? Let’s look at the real situation of the second-rich generation. Some of them, rather than becoming the second-strong generation, becomes the defeated generation which is notorious for their life focused on consumption rather than creation.
Because of the changes of education in history, most Chinese parents, though successfully accumulate wealth, don’t know much about the right value they should pass on to the new generation. They have tried all that they can to be good parents while neglecting the core value they should address, which is INDEPENDENCE.
How should parents help children to be independent?
They should give their children the freedom to make choices for themselves. Children cannot be happy if they don’t have control over their life, which in daily life, means they make choices for themselves, like, what to eat, what to wear, what career to do, what kind of spouse they are going to marry. Some parents may be open-minded enough to let their children to make these tiny decisions about food and clothes, but when it comes to the big ones, they are too anxious to let their children have a try. They used to be young and they made mistakes and now it is their sons and daughters’ turn to be young—the deep love and care is so intense that it becomes even suffocating--they are reluctant to give their children opportunities to start to be responsible for their own lives.

  [参考范文]
Due Attention Should Be Given To Spelling
Nowadays, students attach less importance to the spelling of words in the process of English study. This phenomenon greatly influences students’ writing and brings on worries among teachers.
There are possibly three reasons contributing to this phenomenon. First, exam-oriented education makes the students pay less attention to spelling. Second, some teachers should also be responsible for it because they don’t emphasize the importance of spelling during teaching. Last but not least, some students are too lazy to recite words.
Since spelling is one of the most important factors in English study, due attention should be given to it. As for me, I think, first, exams should be modified to add some factors into it, which would help students pay more attention to spelling. Then, schools should also set effective mechanisms to help teachers as well as the students to realize the importance. Finally, for students themselves, they can, through other ways, make them be interested in word spelling. Only by these can we surly realize the importance of spelling and make improvement.

  Free admission to museums
  越来越多的博物馆免费开放的目的是什么?
  也会带来一些问题
  你的看法
  [参考范文]
  Free Admission to Museums(满分版)
Nowadays, an increasing number of museums are admission-free to visitors home and abroad. The hidden reason behind this is not hard to analyze as there’s a growing awareness for the authorities regarding the urgency of popularization of culture, knowledge and history with every average person in our society. Only with free access to this live ‘database’, can most people fully enjoy what museums could offer to them.
However, free admission to museums might lead to some social problems as well. The most obvious problem is that it might give museums a very heavy economic burden which directly impedes the sustainable development of these organizations. As a result, our government has to work out other ways to collect funds from different channels, which might be difficult to operate or control. On the other hand, free admission attracts too many visitors, some of which might not be well-purposed and do some conscious or unconscious damage to the valuable treasures which used to be well-preserved in the museums.
As a university student, I am in favor of the free-admission conduct. Yet it is proposed that some measures should be taken to solve the potential problems caused by it. For example, museums can make some regulations to guide the behavior of visitors or set some ‘closed’ days for museums for regular maintenance. Only in this way can free-admission to museums become a long-lasting phenomenon and have sustainable development.

Limiting the Use of Disposal Bags
  1. 一次性塑料袋曾被广泛的使用
  2. 造成的问题
  3. 限制使用塑的意义
  [参考范文]
  • Limiting the Use of Disposal Bags
  • These days disposal products often hit the headlines of newspapers and have been brought into focus of the public. Indeed, it is widely accepted that they have gained increasing popularity among people in all walks of life. Taking a look around you, you can find examples too numerous to list: When you walk on the street, you can see plastic bags flying over your head; When you ramble along the river, you can find plastic bottles floating on the water; When you stroll in the park with your lover, you can notice waste paper thrown everywhere.
  • Among the most important reasons often cited by people is the quickening pace of modern life. They are often too busy to wash dirty dishes or glasses, as a result they can do nothing but use disposal products. Also playing a part is the improvement of people's life. As a result of the policy of opening and reform, an increasing number of people are much richer than before and can afford disposal products. (原因)
  • Admittedly, they might benefit us in a short term. Unfortunately, they will do us harm in more than one way. The major harm is (that) they are sure to pollute the environment. To make matters worse, they are likely to have potential harm to public health. To illustrate this point, I can think of no better example than HP, the river through S. As a result of disposal products in it, the water has caused some diseases in the local people. (影响)
  • To sum up, for the factors mentioned before, we can safely reach the conclusion that the prevalence of disposale products is bound to cause a chain of undesirable effects. In view of the present situation, it is high time that the government tried every means to protect the environment. Only in this way, can we have a bright future.

  范文一
Nowadays, there usually exists a wide selection of electives for college students to choose from. However, students have quite different plans for their future so they always end up learning courses based on their own ideas.
Some students may choose to learn a certain course in order to obtain an extra certificate for their job hunting after graduation. Because they assume that some more knowledge could ensure more chances of winning in finding a good job. Others may have their choice made just for fun. They tend to hold the idea that college life could be more colorful if they could widen their knowledge through elective courses.
As far as I’m concerned, I’m inclined to choose electives based on both the value of the courses and the interest of my own.
  范文二
Nowadays many college students prefer to have electives in their spare time because the courses can offer a variety of skills and abundant knowledge apart from what they learn in the daily courses. There are many factors that may account for it, and the following are the most conspicuous aspects.
To start with, many students want to get another degree besides their own, so that they can have more competence when they seek a job. Furthermore, as for me, I don’t care about degree or job, I just want to obtain some necessary skills to make my college life worthwhile. What I’m concerned most is how to own more skills that may be necessary for my future. Finally, some students want to learn anything that is different from what they are learning now. The science students, for example, want to know about Shakespeare while the art students want to tell how a vehicle works and how to deal with it when it breaks down. So, they can all get what they think is useful to their college life.
On the whole, the phenomenon is one of the results of multi-demand of the employment market. There is still a long way for us to improve the elective itself, but as a student myself, I find it rewarding and interesting.
  范文三
  What Electives To Choose
With the reform of Chinese higher education, more and more colleges and universities put emphasis on nurturing students’ abilities. As a result, elective courses are available not only for excellent academic performers but also for students about the average level.
Certainly, students have different reasons to choose their own electives. For some, practical skills are the essence of college education, and therefore, courses on computer science, marketing, and finance are highly preferred. On the other hand, others may hold the idea of liberal education and electives concerning literature, history, and philosophy are the most welcome.
Take me as an example: being a disciple of free education, I stand for the notion that university is not a place for survival skills, but a palace of knowledge and critical reasoning. Although my major is chemistry, the electives I attend most frequently are English literature, an Introduction to Classic Music, and Different Schools of Western Painting. They really widen my horizon.

[参考作文]Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists?
  [参看范文一]
One can always find visitors taking pictures and enjoying the scenery in university compus. During the May Day Holiday, National Day Holiday, summer and winter vacations, many University campuses become popular tourist sites. In my opinion, university campus should be open to tourists.
In fact, there are many royal gardens and parks, all of them obviously better than the scenery in the Universities. Why do you think people prefer visiting here with their children? That is because it is a dream goal for many Chinese parents and young ambitious students. Besides this, as more tourists come to visit universities, these universities can widen their influence as well and they can also make some profit from the tourism.
In a word, I think the university compus should be open to the tourists
  [参看范文二]
In university compus, especially in some famous ones, such as Peking University and Qinghua University, tourists are always seen looking around everywhere. Although most of them visit with hope and repect, I think university compus should not be open to tourists.
First, tourists' visit will disturb the normal teaching. They always get into teaching buildings, libraries and so on. They will make noise and throw rubbish everywhere. Second, some tourists trample grass to take photos, and sculpture on trees to leave words. These will affect the environment of the compus badly.
The university is a holy place for study, not for tourism. So It should not be open.

The Spring Festival Evening Get-Together has been held in China for over two decades, which seems to have been an indispensable company during the traditional New Year’s Eve for a great number of people, who appear to be accustomed to enjoying the sights and sounds of a brilliant feast, while gathering with their beloved family.
However, an increasing number of people have voiced different opinions towards it, as more diverse life styles have emerged nowadays. Some prefer to go to a fancy restaurant to enjoy a gourmet meal; some intend to go on a vacation to an incredibly exotic destination for a novel and thorough relaxation; others may have even more post-modern notions, like go bunging, hiking, or cycling for entirely new different experiences, forgetting all about the Spring Festival.
To me, the Evening Get-Together is supposed to be here to stay. It may not remain a must for all people, but it can bring us a strong sense of festivity and serve as an alternative among the variety of holiday activities. Besides, with such a gathering, family members will have a perfect opportunity to enjoy more fun and happiness, for nowadays most people are so engaged in their daily businesses that they can rarely find any extra time to stay with their family, which, if not properly adjusted, might add further to the already worsening situation of the values of Chinese families

Free Admission to Museums
【参考文】
Recently, museums in mounting numbers become admission-free to the public both home and
abroad. The purpose of this practice is to offer more opportunities for citizens to explore and get
easy access to the world of history, culture and knowledge.Although free admission to museums
enjoys distinct advantages, it also brings harmful effects. In the first place, these valuable cultural
relics displayed may be damaged or destroyed consciously or unconsciously by the crowds. In the
second place, it becomes a huge economic burden for museums to run as usual without any profits
from the visitors. It is my view that free admission to museums is of utmost significance. For one
thing, we should appeal to our authorities to legislate strict laws and regulations to protect these
museums. For another, we should cultivate the awareness of people that museums are extremely
vital to us humans. It is high time that we attached great importance to our motherlands’ splendid
and glorious culture of more than five thousand years.

Obviously, a growing number of people are beginning to realize that it is our duty to do that in the
present days, since the concept of “a green world〞has become the focus of the society。
The idea of “a green campus〞is beyond a green environment. To begin with, the development on
the campus is to be sustainable and recyclable. Some of the authorities’ budget should be on how to
reduce of the waste. What’s more, we’d better be aware of the seriousness of pollution around us.
Thus the idea of environmental protection may become a common occurrence in our daily life。
It is necessary that effective actions should be taken to protect our campus from waste and pollution,

Due Attention Should Be Given to Spelling
【参考文】
Nowadays fewer and fewer students pay attention to their word-spelling. According to a recent
survey, there is a dramatic increase in the number of students who can only imitate the
pronunciation of a word but be incapable of spelling it. In this essay I will discuss the factors of this
phenomenon and offer my own view on it.
There are a number of factors can be accountable for this situation. One of the most common
factors is that fewer and fewer students need to write English essays. Besides, the goal of most
students to learn English is to speak it and pass the examination which means they just need to
select the similar words according to the listening materials and passages. Perhaps the most
contributing factor is the wide use of electronic devices such as e-dictionaries and computers and
students no longer need to correct the words by themselves.
As far as I’m concerned, I firmly argue that we need to attach great importance to
word-spelling. To the students, they should write English as much as they can. Meanwhile, to the
teachers, the dictations should be reinforced in the class.

How Should Parents Help Children to Be Independent?
【参考文】
There is no denying the fact that independence plays an increasingly important part in our daily
life and we can’t help asking such a question: how should parents help children to be independent?
To begin with, it is imperative that parents provide opportunities to children and allow them to
participate in the social games which contribute to the independence of the children. What’s more,
under the excessive care and protection of parents, these children are lack of the ability to overcome
the difficulties that abound in their real life. Therefore, it’s a must for parents to cultivate the
independence which helps their children easily conquer frustration and depression.
To conclude, it's essential for us to dispose of the problem of children’s independence timely and

1. 有些大学允许学生自由选择某些课程的任课教师

2. 学生选择教师时所考虑的主要因素

3. 学生自选任课教师的益处和可能产生的问题

1. 现在大学生读双学位的现象很常见

2. 我对这一现象的看法

范文如下:

Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will

As we have read from above, quitting-smoking seems easy, but in reality it is rarely achieved. There is something provoking and interesting in this paradox, just because sword does not wear the stone as dripping water does.

The ability to do something over and over again in a short time may imply its easiness, but in a long run, a lifetime maybe, things turn out to be quite the opposite. Also, as is often the case, one may have obtained all the tools and opportunities to achieve something, but in the end they still fail due to the will shortage.

So how could we avoid the dilemma? Here is the prime condition of success: will and perseverance. Concentrate you energy, thought and mind exclusively on the business in which you are engaged, hang on in there and be patient, for, as Emerson put it, no one can cheat you out of your ultimate success but yourself.

2. 网上购物有很多好处,但也有不少问题

3. 我的建议

Nowadays, can we find a person who has not experienced online shopping? Definitely not. Online shopping is coming into fashion in most of cities due to the rapid development of internet technology.

Online shopping is welcomed by most people due to various reasons. From the perspective of consumer, it can save some time for people who don’t have much spare time. Just click the mouse, they can get whatever they want while staying at home. For the retailers, it can cut some costs for those who don’t have much circulating funds. They don’t have to rent a house and spend money on employees compared with the traditional trade mode. However, there are still some defects in online shopping. First, face to face deal makes online shopping less reliable and trustworthy. Second, people will lose the fun of bargain.

It is undeniable that shopping on the internet has become an irresistible trend in modern society. It’s of great urgency that we need to regulate the relative laws in accordance with the rapid growth of online shopping. Only in this way can we enjoy the pleasure and convenience of online shopping without the concern of being treated.

2.也有人认为金钱是万恶之源(root of all evil)

[范文]Can Money Buy Happiness?
Can money buy happiness? Various people have various answers. Some people
think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can buy whatever he
enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in their minds, money can
bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they think, is the source of happiness.
But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root of all evil.
Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law. A lot of people became
criminals just because they were in search of money. And in the Western countries,
there is nothing that can‟t be bought by money. Many people lose their own lives
when hunting it.
I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money. But even
though money is necessary to life, it can‟t buy happiness. Happiness is not something
that can be measured by money. It is a state of mind. One can have plenty of money,
with which he can buy whatever he wants, and at the same time he is not happy
because he is never satisfied or he is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore,
although money is necessary for a happy life, it can‟t buy happiness.

The two-day weekend has brought a lot of benefits to college students. It not
only offers us more time to get rid of tiredness and have a good rest, but also gives us
more chances to take up some hobbies, such as fishing, reading, or gardening. From
these activities we can learn many things outside the classroom, which will add to our

Despite the convenience it brings us, the two-day weekend has also given rise to
quite a few problems. The most serious one is that the weekdays are filled with more
lesson, sometimes too many. Because our classes are limited to Monday through
Friday, we have to take more lessons each day than in the past. This leaves us little
time to catch our breath during the weekdays.
In order to benefit most from the two-day weekend, I have decided to make a

during the weekend, I will still set aside enough time to study. By doing so ii can have

Many people believe that the world‟s supply of fresh water will never be used up.
They think that fresh water comes from such a variety of sources that it is always

As a matter of fact, the earth is short of fresh water. Furthermore, with the rapid
growth of the world‟s population, the rising demand for water by industry, and the
serious pollution of our surroundings, the world is facing the danger of running out of
fresh water. Actually, in some big cities, fresh water cannot meet the daily needs.
Therefore, to find new ways to save water is an urgent task. First, we should pass
strict laws to control any waste of water. Second, scientists must work even harder to

The famous saying “Practice makes perfect” is widely accepted today. It means
if we practice unfamiliar things again and again, we‟ll be able to perform it perfectly.
The practice of learning English is a good example. We are not living in an
English speaking country. So, in order to learn it well, we need extra practice, such as
reading English books, going to English corners, or communicating with foreigners.
Only sitting at the desk cannot lead to the mastery of English.
As another example, if we want to be skilled in using the computer, we also need
to practice using it. Some children become little experts in computer, just because
they play with it everyday. On the contrary, if we just stick to books, we will still feel
confused when using computers. Judging from the evidence offered, we might safely
draw the conclusion that practice makes perfect.

In recent years, a lot of fake commodities have appeared in the market. These

Since the policy of reform was implemented, China‟s economy has improved. A

Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring them good

Yet many others don‟t think so. They think that numbers have nothing to do with

I‟m in favor of the latter opinion. I think our society is very modern now. We

[范文]Don‟t Hesitate to Say "No"
In our daily life, there are many occasions on which we should not hesitate to
refuse when asked for help. For one thing, when it is beyond our ability, we should
give a direct reply “no”. For another, we the thing we are asked for is unreasonable or
even illegal, we should say “no” without hesitation.
However, it is not the case in our real life. Many people prefer to say “yes” when
they should say “no”. Some are afraid to lose their face, since they think refusal
means their inability. Some people are afraid to offend their acquaintances‟ face, such
as their friends, relatives and so on.
In fact, doing so is quite harmful. If you agree to do the things beyond your
ability, the result will only be worse. The other might as well have asked another
person who can help. And if you agree to do the unreasonable or even the illegal

[范文]Reading Selectively Or Extensively?
Some people think when we read we should read selectively. That is to say, we
should select some books we are interested in and ignore the others. Reading
selectively can help us concentrate our limited time and attention on those selected
books.
Others think we should read extensively. No matter what kind of book it is, we
should look it over. We should read various kinds of books, whether we are interested
in them or not. They maintain that reading extensively can help to enlarge our view
and grasp the general knowledge in different fields.
In my opinion, the two reading ways have their roles respectively in our reading.
However, the disadvantages of each methods are easy to see. If we only read the
books we select or prefer, the framework of our knowledge may not be complete. Our
knowledge would be rather limited. And if we read without selection, we may not
have so much time and energy to be specialized in one particular field. Therefore, the
combination of the two methods is more reasonable.

1. 上大学的费用(tuition and fees)可以通过多种途径解决
2. 哪种途径适合于我(说明理由)
[范文]How I Finance My College Education
Several years ago new tuition fee policy was put into practice and college
students were asked to pay a certain sum of money. And now, all the students, no
matter what subjects they are engaged in, must pay for tuition.
There are many ways for a student to finance his college education. Most
students ask their parents to pay the tuition fee and pay for their books,
accommodation and other cost. A student can also apply for the scholarship. Most
universities set up scholarship to offer money to the poor students who do well in
entrance exams and reward those who do well in entrance exams and reward those
who work well at university. A student can also apply for the low-interest loans. In
addition to the above, taking part-time jobs is also a common way for a college
student to get money to pay part of his tuition and fees.
So far as I‟m concerned, I‟d prefer earning the scholarship. This means I must
study hard and be a top student, which has always been my goal. After all, the task of
a student is to study. And in addition to solving my financial problems, getting the
scholarship can also prove my ability and is good for my future.

and base your composition on the outline given in Chinese below:
1. 面试在求职过程中的作用
2. 取得面试成功的因素:仪表、举止谈吐、能力、专业知识、自信、实事
求是......
[范文]How to Succeed in a Job Interview?
Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been attached to
an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The interview, so to speak, has
become indispensable for getting a satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer
can take advantage of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work
experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right person for the
company. On the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the opportunity to get to
know the job he is going to take up, the salary, the working conditions and many other
things about the job he is interested in.
Therefore, the job interview is very important to a job-hunter. But how can one
succeed in it? Firstly of all, the interviewee must pay attention to his or her
appearance. The first impression is always where we start. Get dressed properly and
neatly. Secondly, good manners are equally important. Don‟t be too proud, and neither
too timid. Just be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude
and skills for the job and his knowledge about eh job-related areas. Be confident. Last
but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about his or her personal as well
as academic background, for honesty is the best policy.
To sum up, the job interview is indeed important, but there is no need to be
nervous. As long as the interviewee has the ability for the job, with careful preparation
and a fairly confident and honest performance, his or her success can be ensured.

Dear Xiao Wang,
I‟m delighted to learn that you are going to visit me during the week-long
vacation. My parents will also be happy to see you again. I‟m sure you will enjoy
every minute here.
I know you are fond of swimming. A river lies not far away from my home. We
can go swimming there. I think it would be very pleasant and refreshing to swim in
such hot summer days. In every big room of my home there is an air-conditioner. We
can watch TV, play CDs or read books very comfortably at home.
A mountain about two miles away from here is beautiful and it is worth touring.
We can go there on foot. When we climb to the top of the mountain, we can have a

Just phone me before you set off. There is no need for you to take anything. I‟ll

I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

January 12th, 2002
Dear Mr. President,
I‟m very lucky to attend this world-famous university, but I‟m afraid I‟m not
content with the canteen service on campus.
Firstly, the quality of the dishes should be improved. Undoubtedly, there are a lot
of delicious dishes, but all the year round, they are the same. More and more students
are complaining about eating the same food each day. So I think the most urgent
problem is variety.
Secondly, the price is a bit too high. Many of us hope that the canteen can
provide us with not only delicious but also cheaper food.
Finally, the environment is so noisy that we can‟t enjoy our meals in good mood.
I suggest that there be some soft music to help us relax.
These suggestions are not just of my own, but also of may other students. We
hope our respectable president will pay attention to our suggestions.
By the way, the canteen workers are very patient and always smiling. So I think
if our university offers them better conditions, they will offer us better service.
Best wishes,
Li Ming

Directions: For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition
on the topic Student Use of Computers. You should write at least 120 words, and base
your composition on the chart and the outline given below:
1.上图所示为某校大学生平均每周使用计算机的时间: 1990年(2 hours)、1995
年(4 hours)、2002年(14 hours),请描述其变化;
2. 请说明发生这些变化的原因(可从计算机的用途、价格或社会发展等方面
加以说明);
3. 你认为目前大学生在计算机使用中有什么困难或问题。
[参考范文]Student Use of Computers
Students tend to use computers more and more nowadays. Reading this chart, we
can find that the average number of hours a student spends on the computer per week
has increased sharply. In 1990, it was less than 2 hours; and in 1995, it increased to
almost 4 hours; while in 2000, the number soared to 20 hours.
Obviously computers are becoming more and more popular. There are several
reasons for this. First, computers facilitate us in more aspects of life. Also, the fast
development of the Internet enlarges our demands for using computers. We can easily
contact with friends in remote places through the Internet. Besides, the prices of
computers are getting lower and lower, which enables more students to purchase
them.
Along with the time spent on computers, there arise some problems. The most
serious one is that many students are spending so much time playing PC games so that
they ignore their studies. It is urgent to let the students use computers in a proper way.

the outline given below in Chinese.
1. 当前社会上存在许多不诚实的现象
2. 诚实利人利已,做人应该诚实
[范文]It Pays to Be Honest
Although honesty is believed to be a virtue, there are still dishonest people in our
society. For example, some businessmen sell fake product to their consumers; some
students cheat in the exams.
Dishonest people are short-sighted. Those who sell fake products may make
money at first, but consumers won‟t buy their products any more. As a result, they
will lose their fortune or even be sent to prison. By contrast, honest people gain a lot.
Those who always tell truth or keep to their promise not only let others trust
them but gain respect from other people as well. Such persons are sure to have a lot of
good friends. Because they are trustable and respectable, everyone is eager to make
friends with them, Besides, it is easier for a person with a good record to get a good
job. Generally speaking, every employer wants his employees to be honest. So we can
say that anyone who is honest will be paid back later.
In a word, honesty wins trust, respect and honor. So it is important that we
should be honest.

[参考范文]An Eye-Witness Account of a Traffic Accident
My name is Liming. I am studying at college. A week ago I saw a traffic
accident , which is still vivid in my mind.
It was at about 9:00 on Saturday morning, June 15th, when I went out of the
university to visit a friend of mine at another university. I was walking leisurely on the
sidewalk when I heard a loud crash of two vehicles just at the T-junction about 10
meters away. Two taxis crashed together. It was a traffic accident.
I went up and found that the two taxis were badly damaged. Both hoofs were out
of shape. One door of a car was knocked off and lying on the road. One driver was
blooding and another was shut in the taxi. Some people were trying to help the driver
get out of the damaged car. One man was calling to the traffic policeman station. A lot
of cars were jammed on the road.
From the stopping track on the road, it is clear that the two taxis were driving too
fast. But it is just one of the reasons. In my opinion, the taxi drivers are eager to take
more passengers and make a little more money. On the other hand, both drivers don‟t
show concern for one another. Both of them wanted to run in front of another.
Therefore, the accident is inevitable. So far, we should let the drivers keep it in their
mind that a little slower, a little safer. Taking care of other‟s lives means taking care of
your own life.

The Day My Classmate Fell Ill (or Got Injured)
[范文]
During the SARS period in this spring, the year of 2003, one of my classmates,
Li ming, was struck down by the virus and was immediately sent to hospital.
The news spread quickly on campus. At first, we were terrified and wondered if
we were infected too. However, through our government's publicity on mass media,
we gradually conquered the fear and set out to try out best to help her. Some teachers
provided darly necessities while some students recorded the English class contents for
him so that Li ming could not be left behind. With our care and concern, Li ming
recovered quickly.
Such an incident teaches us a good moral. Our society is full of love, warm and
peaceful, in which people-from man to woman, from individual to individual-lend
others a hand. Just like a famous song goes, "the world will turn it to heaven only if
everyone contributes a little." and I do believe that it's my great honor to live in this
love-filled paradise!

Dear sir,
When it comes to which major you should choose, I propose that you apply for
the major of English. To begin with, English is the most popular language in the world,
which is widely used in all fields such as teaching, translation, foreign trade and so on.
What‟s more, it goes without saying that English majors are more likely to find a good
job in the tighter and tighter job market.
In order to study at English Department, you have to meet the following
requirements. In the first place, you have to spend a lot of time on it, just as the old
saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”. In the second place, the basic skills of reading,
writing, listening and speaking are necessary, because they are the foundations for
your future study. Last but not the least important, you need an intense interest in
learning English since “interest is the best teacher.”
As far as the preparation work is concerned, you should first of all review all the
required vocabulary. In addition, you‟d better spend some time on reading and writing.
Only through these measures can you hope to enroll in our university.
Yours,
Li Ming

The following is schedule of the day. The first spot we are going to visit is the
Great Wall, the grandest fortification in ancient China. The next sight to look around
is the Ming Tombs, which is one of the best-preserved tombs for 13 emperors in Ming
Dynasty more than one thousand years ago. In the afternoon, we will go for the
Summer Palace, the royal park for Chinese ancient emperors.
Currently we are on the way to the Great Wall. Dating back to the seven century
B.C., the Great Wall is constructed by respective states for fortifying against invasion

The whole secret of the teacher‟s force lies in the conviction that men are

[参看范文一]
One can always find visitors taking pictures and enjoying the scenery in
university compus. During the May Day Holiday, National Day Holiday, summer and
winter vacations, many University campuses become popular tourist sites. In my
opinion, university campus should be open to tourists.
In fact, there are many royal gardens and parks, all of them obviously better than
the scenery in the Universities. Why do you think people prefer visiting here with
their children? That is because it is a dream goal for many Chinese parents and young
ambitious students. Besides this, as more tourists come to visit universities, these
universities can widen their influence as well and they can also make some profit
from the tourism.
In a word, I think the university compus should be open to the tourists
[参看范文二]
In university compus, especially in some famous ones, such as Peking University
and Qinghua University, tourists are always seen looking around everywhere.
Although most of them visit with hope and repect, I think university compus should
not be open to tourists.
First, tourists' visit will disturb the normal teaching. They always get into
teaching buildings, libraries and so on. They will make noise and throw rubbish
everywhere. Second, some tourists trample grass to take photos, and sculpture on
trees to leave words. These will affect the environment of the compus badly.
The university is a holy place for study, not for tourism. So It should not be open.

The Spring Festival Evening Get-Together has been held in China for over two
decades, which seems to have been an indispensable company during the traditional
New Year‟s Eve for a great number of people, who appear to be accustomed to
enjoying the sights and sounds of a brilliant feast, while gathering with their beloved
family.
However, an increasing number of people have voiced different opinions towards
it, as more diverse life styles have emerged nowadays. Some prefer to go to a fancy
restaurant to enjoy a gourmet meal; some intend to go on a vacation to an incredibly
exotic destination for a novel and thorough relaxation; others may have even more
post-modern notions, like go bunging, hiking, or cycling for entirely new different
experiences, forgetting all about the Spring Festival.
To me, the Evening Get-Together is supposed to be here to stay. It may not
remain a must for all people, but it can bring us a strong sense of festivity and serve as
an alternative among the variety of holiday activities. Besides, with such a gathering,
family members will have a perfect opportunity to enjoy more fun and happiness, for
nowadays most people are so engaged in their daily businesses that they can rarely
find any extra time to stay with their family, which, if not properly adjusted, might
add further to the already worsening situation of the values of Chinese families.

Nowadays, there usually exists a wide selection of electives for college students
to choose from. However, students have quite different plans for their future so they
always end up learning courses based on their own ideas.
Some students may choose to learn a certain course in order to obtain an extra
certificate for their job hunting after graduation. Because they assume that some more
knowledge could ensure more chances of winning in finding a good job. Others may
have their choice made just for fun. They tend to hold the idea that college life could
be more colorful if they could widen their knowledge through elective courses.
As far as I‟m concerned, I‟m inclined to choose electives based on both the value
of the courses and the interest of my own.

Nowadays many college students prefer to have electives in their spare time
because the courses can offer a variety of skills and abundant knowledge apart from
what they learn in the daily courses. There are many factors that may account for it,
and the following are the most conspicuous aspects.
To start with, many students want to get another degree besides their own, so that
they can have more competence when they seek a job. Furthermore, as for me, I don‟t
care about degree or job, I just want to obtain some necessary skills to make my
college life worthwhile. What I‟m concerned most is how to own more skills that may
be necessary for my future. Finally, some students want to learn anything that is
different from what they are learning now. The science students, for example, want to
know about Shakespeare while the art students want to tell how a vehicle works and
how to deal with it when it breaks down. So, they can all get what they think is useful
to their college life.
On the whole, the phenomenon is one of the results of multi-demand of the
employment market. There is still a long way for us to improve the elective itself, but
as a student myself, I find it rewarding and interesting.
范文三
What Electives To Choose
With the reform of Chinese higher education, more and more colleges and
universities put emphasis on nurturing students‟ abilities. As a result, elective courses
are available not only for excellent academic performers but also for students about
the average level.
Certainly, students have different reasons to choose their own electives. For some,
practical skills are the essence of college education, and therefore, courses on
computer science, marketing, and finance are highly preferred. On the other hand,
others may hold the idea of liberal education and electives concerning literature,
history, and philosophy are the most welcome.
Take me as an example: being a disciple of free education, I stand for the notion
that university is not a place for survival skills, but a palace of knowledge and critical
reasoning. Although my major is chemistry, the electives I attend most frequently are
English literature, an Introduction to Classic Music, and Different Schools of Western
Painting. They really widen my horizon.

The Internet
In the era of information and technology, the Internet has played an improtant role in
our society. With the Internet, it's easy to get the information we need, improving the
efficiency of our study and work. We can't deny that it is impossible for lots of people
to achieve great success in the modern society without the Internet.
However, some people think that the Internet has a bad effect on the growth of the
teenagers. The teenagers are too young to resist some temptations from the Internet.
Some of them indulge themselves in the Internet and at last are lured away from the
study.
In my opinion, we should pay more attention to the advantages of the Internet and
make the most of it. Meanwhile, we should teach the teenagers how to use the Internet
positively, and make the Internet a tool for their healthy development.

Limiting the Use of Disposal Bags
1. 一次性塑料袋曾被广泛的使用
2. 造成的问题
3. 限制使用塑的意义
[参考范文]
• Limiting the Use of Disposal Bags
• These days disposal products often hit the headlines of newspapers and have
been brought into focus of the public. Indeed, it is widely accepted that they have
gained increasing popularity among people in all walks of life. Taking a look around
you, you can find examples too numerous to list: When you walk on the street, you
can see plastic bags flying over your head; When you ramble along the river, you can
find plastic bottles floating on the water; When you stroll in the park with your lover,
you can notice waste paper thrown everywhere.
• Among the most important reasons often cited by people is the quickening pace
of modern life. They are often too busy to wash dirty dishes or glasses, as a result they
can do nothing but use disposal products. Also playing a part is the improvement of
people's life. As a result of the policy of opening and reform, an increasing number of
people are much richer than before and can afford disposal products. (原因)
• Admittedly, they might benefit us in a short term. Unfortunately, they will do us
harm in more than one way. The major harm is (that) they are sure to pollute the
environment. To make matters worse, they are likely to have potential harm to public
health. To illustrate this point, I can think of no better example than HP, the river
through S. As a result of disposal products in it, the water has caused some diseases in
the local people. (影响)
• To sum up, for the factors mentioned before, we can safely reach the conclusion
that the prevalence of disposale products is bound to cause a chain of undesirable
effects. In view of the present situation, it is high time that the government tried every
means to protect the environment. Only in this way, can we have a bright future.

Free admission to museums
越来越多的博物馆免费开放的目的是什么?

[参考范文]
Free Admission to Museums(满分版)
Nowadays, an increasing number of museums are admission-free to visitors
home and abroad. The hidden reason behind this is not hard to analyze as there‟s a
growing awareness for the authorities regarding the urgency of popularization of
culture, knowledge and history with every average person in our society. Only with
free access to this live „database‟, can most people fully enjoy what museums could
offer to them.
However, free admission to museums might lead to some social problems as well.
The most obvious problem is that it might give museums a very heavy economic
burden which directly impedes the sustainable development of these organizations. As
a result, our government has to work out other ways to collect funds from different
channels, which might be difficult to operate or control. On the other hand, free
admission attracts too many visitors, some of which might not be well-purposed and
do some conscious or unconscious damage to the valuable treasures which used to be
well-preserved in the museums.
As a university student, I am in favor of the free-admission conduct. Yet it is
proposed that some measures should be taken to solve the potential problems caused
by it. For example, museums can make some regulations to guide the behavior of
visitors or set some „closed‟ days for museums for regular maintenance. Only in this
way can free-admission to museums become a long-lasting phenomenon and have
sustainable development.

Bicycles ― An Important Means of Transport in China
提纲:(1)为什么自行车在中国这样普及
(2)和汽车的比较
(3)自行车在中国的前途
Score:2
As every body know, China a big developing country. So, the living standard of people not
very high at present people's income is not enough for they to buy cars motorcycles. And bike is
easy to ride. Bicycle is cheaper be made. And I think bicycle the useful tool of transport in China
now. So, it is quite porpular and wildly used in China's cities and country sides than the personal
transportation—tool.

Bike is a kind of clean tools of transport. It not use gas and other energers. For this reason is
not creat polution. But in fact in any way Bicycle is not advanced than car. If it is raining, the rider
will suffer from wet, on the other hand, bike can not carry much goods.
According to the our country's developing rate, I firmly believe that Bicycle will replaced by
car or motorcycle in that nearly future. But undoubtfully it continue the important means of
transport in China for a long time.
Score:5
Perhaps the amount of bicycle in China is the largest in the world. Why was it so widely used
in China? I thought the answer was: the population in China is too large and the price of bicycle is
much cheaper. The third answer is that the bicycle is easier in using than other transportations.
Comparing with the car, the bicycle is cheaper and it is easier in using than the car, but its
speed is lower than that of the car.
The bicycle will be remained for a long time in China but in the end it will be disappeared
with the improval of people's living level.
Score: 8
Bicycle is an important means of transport in China. The important reason of it is the
economy of Chinese. The use of bicycle in China is widely because people in China have not high
wage. They can only afford a bicycle, and they have no money to buy a car which is too expensive.
So Chinese usually buy a bicycle, and use it to go to work, or go to travel and so on. The other
reason is the large population of China. All these made the bicycle become the important means of
transport.
The bicycle, compared to the car, is not too expensive and it is easy to learn and to use and it
can save the surface of putting it. It doesn’t ask to build the garage like car. This point is very
important to China, because of the lack of land. It isn’t too expensive, so Chinese can afford it. It
doesn’t need any oil, and it can’t cause the polusion. All of these are the good needs compared to
the car.
In the future, bicycle will be widely used. And it will be in good demand. People will produce
much more modern bicycles.
Score: 11
There millions of bicycles in today’s China. Bicycles are very important means of transport in
people’s daily lives. Because to ride a bicycle is very simple, to buy a bicycle will not cost so
much money, to park a bicycle needs just a small room and to ride a bicycle does not need oil but
the rider’s strength, bicycles are popular all over the world, especially in China.
Compared with a car, a bicycle is much cheaper. It is more suitable for China as a developing
country. And a bicycle has almost caused no pollution but a car has. On the contrary, a bicycle is
too slow, it costs more times than a car.
I think the population of China’s bicycle will be kept for the long run. Because it will be
replaced by a car, a bus and so on in some developed areas in China, and it will be made a wide
use in the developing areas in China, the number of bicycles in China will be the same as today
but I believe that it’s quality will be improved.

Score: 14
Bicycles are very popular in China. Almost every family in the city has two or three bicycles.
During the rush hour, you can see that thousands of people -- man and woman, old and young --
ride their bicycles to work and study. That is why China is called “the kingdom of bicycles”.
Compared with cars, bicycles are superior in many ways. First, they are cheap, convenient
and easy to ride. Second, riding bicycle is good for health. Third, they bring no noise nor air
pollution. Though cars are faster and more comfortable, they are too expensive. They consume
plenty of oil and they pollute the air. Sometimes, it is difficult for a driver to park his car.
Moreover, they often cause traffic jams and accidents.
In my opinion, the future of bicycle is very promising. Since China is a developing country
and has a large population, I think, riding bicycle is appropriate to Chinese present conditions. It
will be an important means of transportation for quite a long time.

Reading Selectively Or Extensively?
Outline: 1. 有人认为读书要有选择2.有人认为应当博览群书3. 我的想法
How should we read? Should we read selectively or extensively? Everyone has
his own view. /Some people think we should read selectively. They argue that with the
development of modern science and technology, more and more books are published.
It is impossible for us to read all the books. What’s more, there are many bad books
that are poisonous to our mind. Since we can’t read all the books and we shouldn’t
read bad books, we must read selectively.
But others may not agree, they emphasize that today's society is not what it was.
If one man has a wide range of knowledge, he will have more chances to succeed. If a
man knows much in one field but knows nothing in other fields, he may meet with
failure. Since we must have many kinds of knowledge, we must read extensively.
Who’s right? I think both of them have something right. But I think we should read
extensively first. We should read books in many fields, and read selectively in one
field.
第二种方法
When it comes toreading, some people think that reading selectively is a good
way, but some other people do not agree with them, they think that reading
extensively is better.
Those people who think that reading selectively is better believe that good books

are as many as bad ones. Those good books can give us pleasure and knowledge,
while those bad books can only lead sb. astray. So, they think that we should only
choose the good books to read and never touch the bad books.
But, the other people hold that reading extensively is better, they think that one kind of
books can only give us one aspect of knowledge. Even a good book only contains one
field of information. So they believe that reading extensively is better
To my point, we should choose good books to read and read good books as
many as possible. By this way, we can increase the quality and quantity of reading.
范文. Travelling
People who like travelling have their reasons. They maintainthat travelling can help them
expand their scope of knowledge, especially geographical and historical learning. They go on to
point out that touring will provide more chance for them to enjoy food and try on clothes that they
otherwise cannot possible have.
Those who dislike travelling have their reasons. They would argue that travelling means a
considerable amount of money and energy. For example, traffic and accommodation require
money and walking while seeing sights often tires you.
In practice, travelling does more good than harm. If your finance and health permit, you
might as well do some travelling from time to time. It will at least enable you to get familiar with
people and things that you will probably grow to like and love.

范文17. My View on Fate
There is noconsensusof opinions among people as to the view of fate. Some people
believe that everyone is born to a certain that he can not change, while some other people think
that every man is the master of his own life.
As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter opinion. There is a saying, “Everyone is the
architect of his own future.”In fact, no one is destined to a certain fate in his or her life. Those
who claim that they were born to fail or be unlucky just can’t realize how much inner strength and
ability they have. Let’s take Helen Keller, an extraordinary American woman, for example. When
she was a baby, she became blind and deaf. Instead of accepting her misfortune, she showed great
courage and strong spirit in fighting against fate and made achievements for helping the blind, the
deaf and the speechless. This story tells us that a wise man is always creating his own fate rather
than waiting for good luck.
In conclusion, I believe that everyone is born to be the builder of his own fate. We can have
good fortune only if we work hard. We should bear it in mind, “Every man is the master of his
own fate.” We must depend on ourselves to changes our lives and make us successful and happy.

真题演练:It Pays to be Honest(2003年1月)
It is true that most of us value honesty highly. However, nowadays we often confront
confidence crisis such as cheating, overcharging, fake commodities and so on. I think that
we should be honest because being honest is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to
others and the whole society.
The reasons can be listed as follows. Firstly, only honest people can be truly
respected by the others and can make more friends over a long period of time. Secondly,
honesty, which is the traditional virtue of the Chinese people, can make our life easier and
more harmonious. For example, consumers will not be afraid of being overcharged if
12
dealers are honest, and thus dealers can win over more customers. Thirdly, honesty can
make our society more stable. A case in point is that Singapore, a society featuring
trustworthiness and integrity, has a comparatively low criminal rate.
It goes without saying that being honest is of great benefit to both the community and
individuals. There is no doubt that we should foster the spirit of honesty. In conclusion,
laying stress on honesty will become the public morals in our society.

Celebrities as the products’spokesmen? You should write at least 150 words following the
outline given below in Chinese:
1. 明星代言现象很普遍。
2. 明星代言广告存在一些问题。
3. 我的看法。
Celebrities as the products’spokesmen
In the contemporary society, it is very common for celebrities, or the so-called superstars, to
be spokesmen or representatives for a wide variety of products. Celebrities’advertisements can
be easily found on the Internet, televisions, newspapers, magazines and even on the walls of some
buildings.
There are, however, some problems for celebrities and the consumers. To begin with, before
representing, a star may know nothing about the product. Thus, consumers may be misled. Even
worse, for the sake of money, some stars advertise for items with low quality, even for fake
commodities. In the case of Sanlu, the public image of stars involved was spoiled. Last but not
least, the high income of advertising does not deserve their labor, which widens the gap between
the poor and the rich.
From my point of view, it is high time that measures were taken to eliminate the demerits.
Firstly, laws should be worked out to regulate celebrities’advertising. Secondly, stars should be
required to tell the truth to the public. Only by doing so can stars be trusted by their fans and can
consumers benefit.(183)

范文:
It has been estimated that a thousand years ago there were less than
400 million people on earth. However, in the recent thousand years human
population has increased nearly 20 times. Nowadays the world population
has reached more than 7000 million. The population explosion has caused
many problems. Generally, they come down to four major ones.
First, a lot of people can't get employment, which is a universal
problem in the world. Second, in developing countries there are not enough
shelters for too many people and so people are not properly housed and
even are exposed to the elements. Third, in underdeveloped countries a
lot of people suffer from hunger because of  food shortage, which in turn
causes many other problems, malnutrition, disease, etc. Fourth, there are
not enough schools for so many people and so a lot of people are illiterate.
Therefore, to eliminate these problems, human beings should take
effective measures to control population.

How to Solve the Problem of Heavy Traffic
The urban traffic is getting increasingly crowded nowadays in China. The roads are pakced with
cars, bicylces and pedestrians and traffic jams, bus delays and traffic accidents are a common
scene.
Then how to solve this problem? Some suggest to lay down more roads to make the traffic
less crowded and speed up the flow of traffic. Others believe that we should open up more public
bus routes, so that more people will take the public buses instead of travelling by cars and bicycles.
Though above two views sound reasonable, they have their own drawbacks. The fomer may
take up much land which could be used for farms and houses. The latter may cause inconvenience
for those who are used to travelling by car or bicycles. I think the best answer to the traffic
problem is a combination of the two. More roads can be built to hold more traffic and meanwhile
more public bus routes can be opened up to those who prefer to use the public transportation.

How to Solve the Housing Problem in Big Cities
范文:
The shortage of housing is one of the most serious problems facing
many big citeis in China. Though the government has spent a large sum of
money on housing, the investment has produced little financial return and
a housing shortage still persists. Two generations sharing one room and
newly-married couples finding it difficult to have a house of their own
are still common cases. Housing shortage is a problem that requires and
urgent solution.
People's attitudes towards the solution to the housing problem are
different. Some suggest to build more high-rise apartments; others
believe to develop underground housing areas. I am in favour of the former
opinion. For one thing, it is cheaper to build above gound than below.
For another, living underground for a long time will do harm to people's
health. Above all, people are unwilling to live unerground with artificial
lighting and they prefer to live above ground to enjoy the sunshine.
Although there may be some other ways to solve the housing shortage
problem, I believe to build more high-rise apartments is one of the
promising solutions to the housing problem.

Man Is to Survive
范文:
Nowadays humanity is faced with a lot of troublesome problems: energy
crisis, cancer, pollution, population explosion, tec. They are
threatening the survival of humanity. Therefore, some people are
pessimistic about the future of humanity.
They are pessimistic because they think that limited energy on earth
will be exhausted soon; incurable diseases are threatening more people's
lives; pollution is worsening the environment; population explosion will
make food shortage even more serious.
Actually they needn't worry too much about these problems. Scientists
will have developed new energy resources by the time oil and coal are used
up. Besides, scientists are making a thorough study of genes and they will
manage to cure cancer by adjusting the arrangement of genes. They are also
making efforts to control pollution and population. Furthermore, all the
governments in the world are concerned about these problems and they ahve
taken measures to solve these problems.
Therefore, we have every reason to be sure that human beings will
conquer nature but they will never be conquered.

范文:
The graph shows the changing rate of car accidents in Walton city in
1990. The first two months of 1990 showed an increasing trend. The rate
rose to 32 in March but fell to 26 in June. From June on the rate was rising
again and reached the peak point 39 in August. After August the rate began
to decline, and eventually dropped to the lowest point 16 at the end of
the year.
The highest rate in August was due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Humidity and high temperature make drivers impatient, which easily leads
to car accidents. The high rate in the first half of 1990 was also caused
by the bad weather condition. In Walton City the excessive rain comes at
early spring. The rain made road slippery, which often resulted in car
accidents.
This year the pattern is expected to change. The city government has
raised fund to improve the road condition. Two new roads will be finised
at the beginning of this year and are expected to open to traffic soon.
Furthermore, the new road regulation provides that in summer every car
must be air-conditioned. With all these precautions, I'm sure that the
rate of car accidents will be much lower this year.

Film Is Giving Way to TV
范文:
Nowadays there are fewer and fewer cinema-goers and the cinema is
slack. However, there are more and more TV viewers. There are many reasons
for this social phenomenon, but in general, they come down to three major
ones.
First, film tickets are too expensive, while it doesn't cost much to
watch TV at home. Besides, it is time-consuming and inconvenient to go
to the cinema. Nevertheless, it is very convenient and comfortable to
watch TV at home. You needn't go out but just need to turn on the television.
Most important of all, if you don't like the film you'll have to sit through
it; but if you don't like one programme on TV, you can shift to another.
However, some people still go to the cinema. They usually go to the
cinema for the purpose of social contact. Young people go dating there.
Other people go to the cinema as an activity. For example, schools often
organize children to go to the cinema. Sometimes employees also go to the
cinema with the film tickets presented by their institutions.

Looking Forward to the Twenty-first Century
范文:
The new century is approaching. It can be expected that there will
be a breakthrough in life sceience and space science in the 21st century.
First, scientists will conquer incurable diseases through the
transformation of genes. With the same technology they can breed new
species of animals and even human life in the laboratory. Most important
of all, they can decelerate aging and prolong life.
Besides, permanent stations will be set up in the moon or other planets
or stars so that scientists can make a thorough study of the moon and other
planets or star. Most probably life will be found in other stars in
universe or the planets or stars suitable for the human existence will
be discovered.
However, the scientific development will also bring about some social
problems. How should we regard from an ethical perspective the one who
is bred through the gene technology in the laboratory. How can the police
identify the criminal from a group of people with the same DNA?
It is quite natural that we will meet problems in the scientific and
social development. Therefore, we should be prepared to meet new
challenges.

范文:
Nowadays, motorcycles are popular around us. They have be come an
important means of transport in Chinese cities. Compared with the bike
and the car, the motorcycle has its own advantages.
First, it is quite flexible. When there is a traffic jam, it can go
through the cars that are held up in the street. Besides, it doesn't
consume much petrol. Most important of all, it can carry another person
at the back.
But every coin has two sides. The negative aspects are also apparent.
To begin with, it's very complicated to get qualified for riding a
motorcycle. You'll have to go through a series of procedures to get a
riding license. Furthermore, the maintenance is expensive. Worst of all,
it costs a big sum of money to pay for the license plate, especially in
Shanghai.
In conclusion, it has both favorable and unfavorable aspects. However,
if the authorities concerned simplify the procedures and reduce the cost
of the license plate, the motorcycle will be accepted by more people.

In contrast, those who hold the second view think that if one is not

As to me, I agtee with the latter opinion. Admittedly, there is really
an intense competition for limited opportunities, but this is not to say
that one can't create opportunities himself. In most cases opportunities
are created by people themselves. For example, many people lost their jobs

others create opportunities themselves and get self-employed. Eventually
they become employers themselves.

I decide to be a teacher. There are many reasons for my personal preference
but generally they come down to three major ones.
First, I was born in a teacher's family and so I was greatly influenced
by my father. Second, I find that education is important because it is
the basis of science and technology and if a country's education is
backward, its science and technology will never be advanced. Third,
teachers are needed in our country, especially in the countryside.
However, it is not easy to be a qualified teacher. A qualified teacher

Nowadays ther are a lot of false advertisements in society. They have
caused many harms to society. Generally, their harms can be listed as
follows.
First, they exaggerate the functions of the goods they advertise and
mislead consumers. Second , some advertisements contain obscene contents
and bring about spiritual pollution. Third, they seriously damage the
credit of businesses because the shops which sell those goods will be
distrusted and even considered the conspirators of those advertisers by
consumers.
Personally, I am usually vigilant against any advertisements and so
I have never been taken in. However, some people are credulous and are
easily taken in. Therefore, in my opinion, effective measures must be
taken to ban false advertisements and protect consumers' interests. First,
all the advertisements must be strictly censored by the authorities

inflicted on those who publish illegal advertisements.
In conclusion, false advertisements must be eliminated in our

As to me, I am in favor of the first idea. The reasons are as follows.
First, addmittedly, letting off firecrackers will create an auspicious
atmosphere, but it will not really bring luck to let off firecrackers.
Besides, it is dangerous to let off firecrackers. It was reported that
letting off firecrackers causes a lot of accidents, fire, injury, and even
death every year.
However,it is our traditional custom to celebrate an important

In the developing countries great changes took place in life

life expectancy was very low, while infant mortality ws very high.
However, in 1990 life expectancy increased, whereas infant mortality
declined.
There are many reasons for the changes, but in general, they come down
to three major ones. First, their living conditions were improved. In the
old days people in the developing countries suffered hunger and were
exposed to the elements. Nowadays they are well fed and housed. Naturally
they live longer than before. Besides, the medical condition was also
improved and so the adequate medical treatment ensures the adults' health
and reduces infant mortality. Most important of all, in the early 60s there
were constant wars in some developing countries because of the colonial
rule and so a lot of people were killed in wars. Nowadays most developing
countries have become independent countries and their people live a
peaceful life.

"Haste makes waste" is an English proverb which has equivalent
expressions in many languages. It has become a precept whose value is
universally accepted.
This proverb can be verified by many other proverbs"There is no royal
road in learning", "Rome was not built in a day". Anyway it means that
one should not be overanxious for quick results, otherwise he will fail.
If one wants to be a scholar, he should make persistent efforts, burying
himself in books. If he wants to take sa shortcut, he will never become
a scholar. If one wants to be president of a country, he should first
display his remarkable ability in his routine work so that his ability
will be recognized and accepted by others. However, if he is impatient
for success, he will never realize his goal. If a man courts a woman,
he should ry to win her love gradually. He should not expect tto win
her heart within a day, otherwise he will never get true love.
In conclusion, one should follow in order and advance step by step
and should not be impatient for success, otherwise he will suffer a
setback.

Different people have different views on job-hopping. Some people
would like to always engage in one work because they think that if one
sticks to one work, he will be quite familiar and skillful with the
work. However, others would like to change jobs constatly because they
consider it fashionable to do so and besides they think they can get
different work experiences.
As to me, I am in favor of the former group of people's attitude.
I think hthat if one always works in one field, he can accumulate a lot
of experience in that field which in turn will further improve his work.
Therefore he will become an expert in that field. However, if one hops
from one job to another, he can never amass experience in one field.
Although he can get different work experiences, he can't make use of
these experiences.in one particular work. Therefore, he will always be
a jack-of-all-trades.
In conclusion, if one wants to be an expert in one field, he should
not hop from one job to another

Nowadays there are a lot of fake commodities on the market. They
range from daily commodities to expensive goods. They have caused many
harms in society.
First, fake commodities damage the consumers' interests. In
addition, fake commodities affect businessmen and manufacturers, too.
Those who have been deceived will be reluctant to consume, which will
make business slack. Worst of all, some fake commodities such as
medicine, gas cylinder and electric devices will endanger people's lives
and social security.
There are many ways to eliminate fake commodities but the following
ones may be effective. First, the laws of the protection of consumers
should be enforced to severely punish those who produce or sell fake
commodities. Second, consumers should be taught how to tell good
commodities from fake ones. Third, they should be advised to protect
their own interests and not to be led astray by false advertisements.
In a word, the whole society should pay close attention to the
problem of fake commodities and launch a campaign against them. Only
in this way will fake commodities be possibly eliminated from the market

Do “Lucky Numbers” Really Bring Good Luck?
范文:
Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring
them good luck. For instance, the so-called lucky number “8” is widely
used now because it is sounded like “getting rich” in Chinese and is
believed to bring good fortune.
Yet many others don’t think so. They think that numbers have nothing
to do with luck. They regard numbers simply as a mathematic symbols for
counting. They are anything but a mystery. They laugh at those who think
numbers can bring good luck.
I’m in favor of the latter opinion. I think our society is very
modern now. We mustn’t count on the so-called lucky numbers to fulfill
our wishes. Whether we can have good luck depends on ourselves. If we
work hard, good luck will come to us.

Don’t Hesitate to Say “No”
范文:
In our daily life, there are many occasions on which we should not
hesitate to refuse when asked for help. For one thing, when it is beyond
our ability, we should give a direct reply “no”. For another, we the
thing we are asked for is unreasonable or even illegal, we should say
“no” without hesitation.
However, it is not the case in our real life. Many people prefer
to say “yes” when they should say “no”. Some are afraid to lose
their face, since they think refusal means their inability. Some people
are afraid to offend their acquaintances’ face, such as their friends,
relatives and so on.
In fact, doing so is quite harmful. If you agree to do the things
beyond your ability, the result will only be worse. The other might
as well have asked another person who can help. And if you agree to
do the unreasonable or even the illegal favors, such as cheating in
the exam, you are in fact not helping the other but hurting him. You
yourself will get into trouble too.

Reading Selectively Or Extensively
范文:
Some people think when we read we should read selectively. That
is to say, we should select some books we are interested in and ignore
the others. Reading selectively can help us concentrate our limited
time and attention on those selected books.
Others think we should read extensively. No matter what kind of
book it is, we should look it over. We should read various kinds of
books, whether we are interested in them or not. They maintain that
reading extensively can help to enlarge our view and grasp the general
knowledge in different fields.
In my opinion, the two reading ways have their roles respectively
in our reading. However, the disadvantages of each methods are easy
to see. If we only read the books we select or prefer, the framework
of our knowledge may not be complete. Our knowledge would be rather
limited. And if we read without selection, we may not have so much time
and energy to be specialized in one particular field. Therefore, the
combination of the two methods is more reasonable.

How I Finance My College Education
范文:
Several years ago new tuition fee policy was put into practice and
college students were asked to pay a certain sum of money. And now,
all the students, no matter what subjects they are engaged in, must
pay for tuition.
There are many ways for a student to finance his college education.
Most students ask their parents to pay the tuition fee and pay for their
books, accommodation and other cost. A student can also apply for the
scholarship. Most universities set up scholarship to offer money to
the poor students who do well in entrance exams and reward those who
do well in entrance exams and reward those who work well at university.
A student can also apply for the low-interest loans. In addition to
the above, taking part-time jobs is also a common way for a college
student to get money to pay part of his tuition and fees.
So far as I’m concerned, I’d prefer earning the scholarship. This
means I must study hard and be a top student, which has always been
my goal. After all, the task of a student is to study. And in addition
to solving my financial problems, getting the scholarship can also
prove my ability and is good for my future.

Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?
A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component
of the College English Test (CET).
范文:
A test of spoken English will be included as an optional (component
of the College English Test (CET). Some people contend that it is
absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because
we have been told many times that a Chinese student who has been learning
English for years cannot communicate with a native English speaker.
Sometimes even those top students who excel at grammar and writing
skills find their English inadequate to express their thoughts freely
when speaking. A test of spoken English will bring the importance of
speaking English to the awareness of the college students, and thus
help them with their communicating skills.
On the other hand, there are also people who maintain that good
reading and writing skills would be enough for the average English
learners. College students are already under considerable pressure
from their coursework. Another required test will only add to their
burden. Also, some students may take the shortcut and only practice
the questions according to the fixed format of the test, which will
not actually improve their spoken English.
I believe that a test of spoken English will do more good than harm.
Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability
to speak fluent English is a must for anyone who wants to surpass others
in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall
make all efforts to practice my spoken English in the rest years in
college.

outline given in Chinese below:
1. 面试在求职过程中的作用
2. 取得面试成功的因素:仪表、举止谈吐、能力、专业知识、自信、实
事求是......
范文:
Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been
attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The
interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a
satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage
of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work
experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the
right person for the company. On the other hand, the interviewee can
make use of the opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take
up, the salary, the working conditions and many other things about the
job he is interested in.
Therefore, the job interview is very important to a job-hunter.
But how can one succeed in it?  Firstly of all, the interviewee must
pay attention to his or her appearance. The first impression is always
where we start. Get dressed properly and neatly. Secondly, good manners
are equally important. Don’t be too proud, and neither too timid. Just
be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude
and skills for the job and his knowledge about eh job-related areas.
Be confident. Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest
about his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty
is the best policy.
To sum up, the job interview is indeed important, but there is no
need to be nervous. As long as the interviewee has the ability for the
job, with careful preparation and a fairly confident and honest
performance, his or her success can be ensured.

Dear Xiao Wang,
I’m delighted to learn that you are going to visit me during the
week-long vacation. My parents will also be happy to see you again.
I’m sure you will enjoy every minute here.
I know you are fond of swimming. A river lies not far away from
my home. We can go swimming there. I think it would be very pleasant
and refreshing to swim in such hot summer days. In every big room of
my home there is an air-conditioner. We can watch TV, play CDs or read
books very comfortably at home.
A mountain about two miles away from here is beautiful and it is
worth touring. We can go there on foot. When we climb to the top of
the mountain, we can have a wonderful bird-eye view of the whole
village.
Just phone me before you set off. There is no need for you to take
anything. I’ll prepare everything for you.
I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Dear Mr. President,
范文:
January 12th, 2002
Dear Mr. President,
I’m very lucky to attend this world-famous university, but I’m
afraid I’m not content with the canteen service on campus.
Firstly, the quality of the dishes should be improved. Undoubtedly,
there are a lot of delicious dishes, but all the year round, they are
the same. More and more students are complaining about eating the same
food each day. So I think the most urgent problem is variety.
Secondly, the price is a bit too high. Many of us hope that the
canteen can provide us with not only delicious but also cheaper food.
Finally, the environment is so noisy that we can’t enjoy our meals
in good mood. I suggest that there be some soft music to help us relax.
These suggestions are not just of my own, but also of may other
students. We hope our respectable president will pay attention to our
suggestions.
By the way, the canteen workers are very patient and always smiling.
So I think if our university offers them better conditions, they will
offer us better service.
Best wishes,
               Yours sincerely,
                      Liming

given in Chinese below:
1. 上图所示为某校大学生平均每周使用计算机的时间: 1990年(2
hours)、1995年(4 hours)、2002年(14 hours),请描述其变化;
2. 请说明发生这些变化的原因(可从计算机的用途、价格或社会发展等
方面加以说明);
3. 你认为目前大学生在计算机使用中有什么困难或问题。 Student Use
of Computers
范文:
Students tend to use computers more and more nowadays. Reading this
chart, we can find that the average number of hours a student spends
on the computer per week has increased sharply. In 1990, it was less
than 2 hours; and in 1995, it increased to almost 4 hours; while in
2000, the number soared to 20 hours.
Obviously computers are becoming more and more popular. There are
several reasons for this. First, computers facilitate us in more
aspects of life. Also, the fast development of the Internet enlarges
our demands for using computers. We can easily contact with friends
in remote places through the Internet. Besides, the prices of computers
are getting lower and lower, which enables more students to purchase
them.
Along with the time spent on computers, there arise some problems.
The most serious one is that many students are spending so much time
playing PC games so that they ignore their studies. It is urgent to
let the students use computers in a proper way.

It Pays to Be Honest
范文:
Although honesty is believed to be a virtue, there are still
dishonest people in our society. For example, some businessmen sell
fake product to their consumers; some students cheat in the exams.
Dishonest people are short-sighted. Those who sell fake products
may make money at first, but consumers won’t buy their products any
more. As a result, they will lose their fortune or even be sent to
prison. By contrast, honest people gain a lot.
Those who always tell truth or keep to their promise not only let
others trust them but gain respect from other people as well. Such
persons are sure to have a lot of good friends. Because they are
trustable and respectable, everyone is eager to make friends with them,
Besides, it is easier for a person with a good record to get a good
job. Generally speaking, every employer wants his employees to be
honest. So we can say that anyone who is honest will be paid back later.
In a word, honesty wins trust, respect and honor. So it is important
that we should be honest.

Changes of Ownership of Houses in China
范文:
Ownership of houses in China has changed greatly in the past decade.
In the past, most houses were stateowned. But now, private houses are
everywhere. As is shown in the chart above, in 1990, the city's houses
were mainly state-owned, with a percentage of 75. This percentage
became 60 in the year 1995 and then dropped sharply to 20 in 2000. At
the same time, the number of private houses has soared up to 80 percent.
There are mainly two reasons that account for this rapid change.
Firstly, the government has been forwarding the policy to support
private houses programs. These programs have proved to be very
important in developing China's economy. Secondly, with the
development of economy, people's standard of living has risen. They
want to have their own houses to satisfy their needs.
The change has enabled more people to enjoy larger living space.
At the same time, people feel pressure to make more money so that they
can buy their own houses.

范文:
From the table based on a survey we made of the reading preferences
of students in an American university in 2002, we learnt that, of all
kinds of bookds, contemporary university students like ficitions best,
which has 65.9 percent of book circulation in library while other kinds
of books have low percentage: general nonfiction --18.2,
science/technology/education-10.8,art/literature/poetry--5.1.
It suggests that contemporary students are much more easily
influenced by the fashion than ever before. It's a reasonable and good
phenomenon because it reveals that university students like to keep
up with the development of society. Thus they will easily adapt
themselves into the new life after they graduate from school.
Generally, I like reading nonfictions, for it is tightly connected
with the reality. To some degree, it's no use reading too much fictions
which sometimes will take you into fancy fantasy. Fast life pace also
don't allow me to read books on art or poetry. To me, nonfiction is
even helpful in analyzing society and humanity.

Reduce Waste on Campus

范文:
As is known to all, waste on campus has become a more and more
serious problem. We can easily see many students dump a lot of food
in the garbage can. Some students spend thousands of yuan buying
fashionable clothes and so on.
The negative effects of waste can be shown in the following aspects.
In the first place, it makes some students dependent on their parents
for money, which is harmful to their development. If they don’t learn
to support themselves, they will be “useless people” when they
graduate. In the second place, it is not easy for our parents to arrange
for our schooling. Last but not the least important, there is no denying
the fact that our country is still poor. There are many people who cannot
go to university and many poor people still need our help.
As far as I am concerned, I should set a good example to reduce
waste on campus. First of all, I will refrain from wasting anything,
from food to stationery. What’s more, I’m determined to call on more
schoolmates to fight against waste. Only through these measures can
we hope to reduce waste on campus.

Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to reflect some problems I came across
recently and. appeal to the improvement of the service industry.
This weekend I bought an English-Chinese dictionary in a bookstore
near my home since its cover is elaborately designed. But when I went
home and read carefully, I found that the several pages of the
dictionary have been cracked and befouled. What is worse, the misprints
spread everywhere in the dictionary and seriously affect my
comprehension. Since there was such damage and misprint to the
dictionary, I went to the bookstore to require for a replace. But to
my surprise, the staff of the bookstore turn down my request rudely
and even denied the poor quality of the dictionary.
It goes without saying that today’s face-paced and
market-oriented economy calls for much higher standard for service
industry. However, to my regret, many of the commercials fail to achieve
this standard and the quality of the staff needs to be improved. It’s
self-evident that the poor quality of practitioners in the service
industry will not only deeply disappoint customers but also hamper the
development of our country’s economy. As a result, I expect your
newspaper to appeal to the service industry to attach more importance
to the service improvement.
Thank you for your attention!

Dear friends,
As some of you may know,Lucy,a lovely girl student,a junior from
the Department of Fine Arts, has been seriously ill.In fact, she has been

范文:
The tape recorder is one of the most welcome and popular electronic
devices ever invented. Nowadays, almost every family has a tape recorder.
It can record people’s voices or popular songs or some other things that
people would like to listen to more than once. Tape recorders have been
warmly welcomed since the day they were invented.
This device is useful in many ways. For example, a reporter can use
it in interviews instead of the old, less accurate means of writing them
in a notebook. Also, in studying foreign languages, students can use it
to improve their listening ability. Moreover, they can record their own
voice to improve their pronunciation in the foreign language.
However, it can also become a nuisance. Your hearing can be seriously
harmed if you listen to a recorder with the volume too high. And, if you
can’t control yourself, you can waste a lot of time listening to a
recorder. So, if used properly, the recorder will serve you well. If used
improperly, it can do harm to you.

2. If there were no electric power.
3. Therefore.
范文:
Ever since early this century, electricity has become an essential
part of our modern life. It plays an important role in many fields such
as industry, agriculture and the daily life of men. Electricity is a source
of energy that makes it possible for the factories to turn out products
and for people to create comfortable living conditions, for example.
If there were no electric power, things would be quite different.
Machines could not run and people would have to fall back on their hands
to produce what is essential for them to keep alive. Traffic would have
to stop at night because there would be no lights in the street. A world
in darkness would no longer be a pleasant one. In a word, things would
be in a mess.
Therefore, we should realize the importance of electricity. As
electricity is insufficient in our country, we should be frugal in using
electricity. We should make great efforts to produce more electricity.

范文:
Recent efforts toward the greening of our cities have achieved much,
although the results are still far from satisfactory. In recent years many
trees have been planted in the cities and much care has been taken of the
planted trees. In spite of all this, the greening process is relatively
slow compared with cities in many other countries. For example, the green
space available on average to each Shanghai citizen is only 0.4 Mu while
every Londoner has more than 20 Mu.
We can benefit much from making our cities greener by planting trees.
First, trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen which is essential
to the health of human beings. Second, trees and other greenery make our
cities more beautiful. Third, trees can also improve the climate of the
cities.
Since we can get so much from making our cities greener, we should
spare no effort to do that. We should plant more trees and take better
care of them. We also should not cut down the trees. In a word, we should
do everything to add to the greening of our cities.

buy a car. Since the bicycle is not expensive, it is affordable by the
average Chinese families. Second, China has a large population and the
traffic is heavy. The bicycle has the advantage of being small in size.
A road which can only allow two cars to pass may allow more than ten
bicycles to run side by side. Finally, people enjoy riding a bicycle to
school, to work and on outing. It is so pleasant and the exercise is good
for people’s health.
Compared with a car, a bicycle has its disadvantages and advantages.
For instance, a bicycle is not fit for a long distance trip. A person who
sits all day long in a car might get fat and unhealthy, while a person
on a bicycle may gain good health and pleasure.
The bicycle is popular in China and it will remain so for a long
time to come. Many things must change before cars became common in China.
Therefore, in the foreseeable future, the bicycle will still be welcome.

Directions:  For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a
composition of no less than 100 words on Changes in People's Diet. Study
the following table carefully and your composition must be based on the
information given in the table. Write three paragraphs to:
1, state the changes in people's diet (饮食) in the past five years;
2, give possible reasons for the changes
3, draw your own conclusions.
4, you should quote as few figures as possible.
范文:
From the chart we can see that during the past five years there have
been great changes in people’s diet. The greatest change occurs in grain
consumption, which has dropped 4% from 49% in 1986 to 45% in 1990 in total
food consumption. The second greatest change is in milk consumption, which
increased from 10% in 1986 to 13% in 1990. But on the other hand, two trends
can be observed in the consumption of meat and fruit and vegetables. From
1986 to 1989, meat consumption increased from 17% to 23% while that of
fruit and vegetables dropped from 24% to 20%. From 1989 to 1990, meat
consumption dropped a little to 21%, while that of fruit and vegetables
increased a little to 21%.
What has caused the great changes in people’s diet? The main reason,
I think, lies in the improvement in people’s income level. With the
development of our society, people are becoming richer and richer, which
enables them to purchase more nutritious food such as meat and milk. In
the meantime, grain consumption in people’s diet consequently dropped.
So from the analysis, we can draw a conclusion that our society is
progressing and people are living a better life than ever before. We are
now able to purchase more delicious and nutritious food, resulting in an
improvement in our health.

composition in no less than 100 words, on the topic: Is Failure a Bad Thing?
You should base your
composition on the following outline (give in Chinese )
1,失败是常有的事?
2,人们对失败有各种不同的态度。
3,我对失败的态度。
You should write your composition in three paragraphs. Remember to write
your composition in readable handwriting on the right side of this sheet.
Is Failure a Bad Thing?
范文:
Failure is a common thing in our daily life. As students, we sometimes
fail to get high scores in our examinations. When we play games, we might
be beaten by others. And there are times when we fail to do satisfactory
work. All these failures happen naturally and almost every one of us has
such experiences.
However, there are different attitudes towards failure. Some people
lose heart when they fail; they think the world is at its end. Some people
don’t take failure seriously but just let it be, while some others learn
much from failure, and therefore see the light of hope through failure.
In my opinion, what really counts is not failure itself, but what we
think of failure and what we do after failure. As long as we don’t give
up, keeping believing in ourselves, and in the meantime learn something
from failure, we’ll certainly make our mark in the end. So I am never
afraid of failure, for I believe that failure is not a bad thing. Rather,
“Failure is the mother of success.”

范文:
To a Chinese, the task of learning English well is not easy. So I,
like many other English learners, have met with difficulties in learning
English during the past seven years. But I managed to overcome them and
made much progress.
The spelling and meaning of words can be said to be the first
difficulty I met as a beginner. But I found our my own way to deal with
them. As to spelling, I never copied a new work again and again to remember
it, but tried to find its relevance to the sound. In fact, as long as I
can read the word out, I can write it out. As to the meaning, I rarely
recite its Chinese translation but often put the word into the sentence
to learn its meaning. Moreover, if you use a word quite often, its spelling
and meaning will be no problem. After all, we are learning English in order
to use it.
Grammar and idioms may be another difficulty. But I have also got over
it. I have not read lots of grammar books. But I spent much time reading
the articles written by native speakers or specialists in English. By
doing so, I came to gain “a sense of Englishlanguage”. I began to gain
a feel for which sentences are “good English” and which are not.
Finally, I want to say that overcoming all these difficulties requires
perseverance. In the past seven years I spent at least an hour on English
each day. I believe this is an important reason why I am able to make
progress in learning English.

Sports benefit us in many respects. When taking part in sports, we
get the chance to train almost all parts of our body. There is no doubt
that properly balanced physical activities keep us physically fit.
Furthermore, sports can enrich our life and maintain our psychological
health. Through participation, everyone can learn that on the playing
field he not only competes for himself but also for his team. Sports teach
us about consideration, cooperation and optimism, and how to cope with
difficulties.
But sports can do harm to those people who cannot balance their
activities properly. Training too hard may hurt their body, exhaust their
energy and even make them disabled.
Personally, I love sports. I enjoy participating in sports. I feel
that I not only gain a well-balanced life through sports, but also get
more chances to move closer to nature. Sports have really added happiness

The News Report has always been my favorite TV program. Almost
everyday I turn on the TV at 6:30 p.m. and wait for the news program. This
has become a part of my life.
The News Report contains a large amount of information – from the
international political situation to the latest foot-ball game. And the
most important character is its fast pace. Because of this fast pace, news
programs can contain much information in a short time.
In my opinion, the News Report is more than a TV program. It is a way
of communication. From this program, people can know and understand world
affairs. The world thus becomes smaller and smaller. I especially
appreciate this benefit of watching the news.

Most of us have had an experience which reminds us the world is getting
smaller. Perhaps when you went to some place far away from the city you
live in and thought you knew nobody there, you were surprised to find that
you ran into one of your old classmates on the street! Then both of you
cried out, “What a small world!”
Why is the world getting smaller and smaller? For one thing, modern
technology has created various means of transportation. And they are more
and more available. Buses, trains, planes and taxis are found in most
cities of the world. They carry goods and passengers to and from every
corner of the world. For another thing, with the development of modern
society, people are in contact with one another more frequently. Everyday
we must deal with a lot of people unknown to us before. The more advanced
a society, the more contacts we make with others.
So we can draw the conclusion that as long as technology makes progress,
the world will grow smaller and smaller.

Can money buy happiness? Various people have various answers. Some
people think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can
buy whatever he enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in
their minds, money can bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they
think, is the source of happiness.
But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root
of all evil. Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law.
A lot of people became criminals just because they were in search of money.
And in the Western countries, there is nothing that can’t be bought by
money. Many people lose their own lives when hunting it.
I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money.
But even though money is necessary to life, it can’t buy happiness.
Happiness is not something that can be measured by money. It is a state
of mind. One can have plenty of money, with which he can buy whatever he
wants, and at the same time he is not happy because he is never satisfied
or he is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore, although money
is necessary for a happy life, it can’t buy happiness.

When looking for a job, you will most likely have a job interview first.
This seems to be in fashion now. Through the interview the interviewer
and the interviewee can talk face to face, which provides a way for them
to know each other better.
On the one hand, the interviewer can introduce the main aspects of
the job opening to the interviewee, such as the specific requirements for
the job, the working conditions, and the wages and benefits the
interviewee will get.
On the other hand, the interviewee also has a chance to give the
employer a good impression. He can talk with confidence and show the
interviewer how well he is educated and how good his working ability is.
And it will be better if he emphasizes that this is the very job he wants
and he3 won’t cast an eye on any other jobs. The interviewer will most
probably be moved.
Through the job interview, people who look for a job will have a better
chance of getting a good one and those who need people to do a job will
have a better chance of finding someone that is qualified.

The two-day weekend has brought a lot of benefits to college students.
It not only offers us more time to get rid of tiredness and have a good
rest, but also gives us more chances to take up some hobbies, such as
fishing, reading, or gardening. From these activities we can learn many
things outside the classroom, which will add to our knowledge.
Despite the convenience it brings us, the two-day weekend has also
given rise to quite a few problems. The most serious one is that the
weekdays are filled with more lesson, sometimes too many. Because our
classes are limited to Monday through Friday, we have to take more lessons
each day than in the past. This leaves us little time to catch our breath
during the weekdays.
In order to benefit most from the two-day weekend, I have decided to

time to study. By doing so ii can have a good time as well as make progress

Global Shortage of Fresh Water
范文:
Many people believe that the world’s supply of fresh water will never
be used up. They think that fresh water comes from such a variety of sources
that it is always sufficient for use. Such an opinion leads to a shocking
waste of water.
As a matter of fact, the earth is short of fresh water. Furthermore,
with the rapid growth of the world’s population, the rising demand for
water by industry, and the serious pollution of our surroundings, the
world is facing the danger of running out of fresh water. Actually, in
some big cities, fresh water cannot meet the daily needs.
Therefore, to find new ways to save water is an urgent task. First,
we should pass strict laws to control any waste of water. Second,
scientists must work even harder to purify sea water and polluted water,
and try to find substitutes to reduce the use of fresh water.

Practice Makes Perfect
范文:
The famous saying “Practice makes perfect” is widely accepted today.
It means if we practice unfamiliar things again and again, we’ll be able
to perform it perfectly.
The practice of learning English is a good example. We are not living
in an English speaking country. So, in order to learn it well, we need
extra practice, such as reading English books, going to English corners,
or communicating with foreigners. Only sitting at the desk cannot lead
to the mastery of English.
As another example, if we want to be skilled in using the computer,
we also need to practice using it. Some children become little experts
in computer, just because they play with it everyday. On the contrary,
if we just stick to books, we will still feel confused when using computers.
Judging from the evidence offered, we might safely draw the conclusion
that practice makes perfect.

Getting to Know the World Outside the Campus
范文:
With the rapid development of society, it is essential for college
students to get to know the world outside the campus. There are a variety
of reasons why we should do that. The primary one is that we can expand
our horizons. Nowadays, as students, our knowledge is mostly derived from
books, which is really limited. Only through contact with society will
we learn more practical things. Second, it will enable us to be more
sophisticated after graduation. Finally, knowing the world outside the
campus may awaken in us a high sense of duty and help us make greater
achievements in the future.
As is known to all, there are many ways we can know the society, such
as through community service or keeping informed through TV, radio or
newspapers.
As a university student, I will read newspapers and magazines to
enrich my knowledge and do some volunteer work for the community or take
up a part-time job in my spare time so that I can learn from my experience
and prepare for my future work.

In recent years, a lot of fake commodities have appeared in the market.
These fake commodities have done great harm to the consumers and the
society.
Since the policy of reform was implemented, China’s economy has
improved. A lot of people getting richer, and their living conditions are

getting rich overnight and living a heavenly life, which, of course, is

Once these fake commodities enter the market, they will do
immeasurable harm to the society. The direct victims are the consumers.
As the quality of the fake commodities is always very poor, the consumers
may suffer great losses. Certain fake commodities, such as food and
medicine, will cause irreparable harm to the health and well-being of the
consumers. Fake commodities also cut into the profits of the
brand-name-owners. Since the fake ones are cheaper, people tend to be
reluctant to buy the genuine ones.

Do “Lucky Numbers” Really Bring Good Luck?
范文:
Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring them
good luck. For instance, the so-called lucky number “8” is widely used
now because it is sounded like “getting rich” in Chinese and is believed
to bring good fortune.
Yet many others don’t think so. They think that numbers have nothing
to do with luck. They regard numbers simply as a mathematic symbols for
counting. They are anything but a mystery. They laugh at those who think
numbers can bring good luck.
I’m in favor of the latter opinion. I think our society is very modern
now. We mustn’t count on the so-called lucky numbers to fulfill our wishes.
Whether we can have good luck depends on ourselves. If we work hard, good
luck will come to us.

Many people prefer to
say “yes” when they should say “no”. Some are afraid to lose their
face, since they think refusal means their inability. Some people are
afraid to offend their acquaintances’ face, such as their friends,
relatives and so on.
In fact, doing so is quite harmful. If you agree to do the things beyond
your ability, the result will only be worse. The other might as well have
asked another person who can help. And if you agree to do the unreasonable
or even the illegal favors, such as cheating in the exam, you are in fact
not helping the other but hurting him. You yourself will get into trouble
too.

Reading Selectively Or Extensively
范文:
Some people think when we read we should read selectively. That is
to say, we should select some books we are interested in and ignore the
others. Reading selectively can help us concentrate our limited time and
attention on those selected books.
Others think we should read extensively. No matter what kind of book
it is, we should look it over. We should read various kinds of books,
whether we are interested in them or not. They maintain that reading
extensively can help to enlarge our view and grasp the general knowledge
in different fields.
In my opinion, the two reading ways have their roles respectively in
our reading. However, the disadvantages of each methods are easy to see.
If we only read the books we select or prefer, the framework of our
knowledge may not be complete. Our knowledge would be rather limited. And
if we read without selection, we may not have so much time and energy to
be specialized in one particular field. Therefore, the combination of the
two methods is more reasonable

Several years ago new tuition fee policy was put into practice and
college students were asked to pay a certain sum of money. And now, all
the students, no matter what subjects they are engaged in, must pay for
tuition.
There are many ways for a student to finance his college education.
Most students ask their parents to pay the tuition fee and pay for their
books, accommodation and other cost. A student can also apply for the
scholarship. Most universities set up scholarship to offer money to the
poor students who do well in entrance exams and reward those who do well
in entrance exams and reward those who work well at university. A student
can also apply for the low-interest loans. In addition to the above, taking
part-time jobs is also a common way for a college student to get money
to pay part of his tuition and fees.
So far as I’m concerned, I’d prefer earning the scholarship. This
means I must study hard and be a top student, which has always been my
goal. After all, the task of a student is to study. And in addition to
solving my financial problems, getting the scholarship can also prove my
ability and is good for my future.

Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?
A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of the
College English Test (CET).
范文:
A test of spoken English will be included as an optional (component
of the College English Test (CET). Some people contend that it is
absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because
we have been told many times that a Chinese student who has been learning
English for years cannot communicate with a native English speaker.
Sometimes even those top students who excel at grammar and writing skills
find their English inadequate to express their thoughts freely when
speaking. A test of spoken English will bring the importance of speaking
English to the awareness of the college students, and thus help them with
their communicating skills.
On the other hand, there are also people who maintain that good reading
and writing skills would be enough for the average English learners.
College students are already under considerable pressure from their
coursework. Another required test will only add to their burden. Also,
some students may take the shortcut and only practice the questions
according to the fixed format of the test, which will not actually improve
their spoken English.
I believe that a test of spoken English will do more good than harm.
Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability
to speak fluent English is a must for anyone who wants to surpass others
in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall
make all efforts to practice my spoken English in the rest years in
college.

composition on the topic How to Succeed in a Job Interview? You should
write at least 120 words, and base your composition on the outline given
in Chinese below:
1. 面试在求职过程中的作用
2. 取得面试成功的因素:仪表、举止谈吐、能力、专业知识、自信、实事求是......
范文:
Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been
attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The
interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a
satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage of
the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work experiences,
education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right person for
the company. On the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the
opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take up, the salary,
the working conditions and many other things about the job he is interested
in.
Therefore, the job interview is very important to a job-hunter. But
how can one succeed in it? Firstly of all, the interviewee must pay
attention to his or her appearance. The first impression is always where
we start. Get dressed properly and neatly. Secondly, good manners are
equally important. Don’t be too proud, and neither too timid. Just be
courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude and
skills for the job and his knowledge about eh job-related areas. Be
confident. Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about
his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty is the
best policy.
To sum up, the job interview is indeed important, but there is no need
to be nervous. As long as the interviewee has the ability for the job,
with careful preparation and a fairly confident and honest performance,
his or her success can be ensured.

范文:
I’m delighted to learn that you are going to visit me during the
week-long vacation. My parents will also be happy to see you again. I’m
sure you will enjoy every minute here.
I know you are fond of swimming. A river lies not far away from my
home. We can go swimming there. I think it would be very pleasant and
refreshing to swim in such hot summer days. In every big room of my home
there is an air-conditioner. We can watch TV, play CDs or read books very
comfortably at home.
A mountain about two miles away from here is beautiful and it is worth
touring. We can go there on foot. When we climb to the top of the mountain,
we can have a wonderful bird-eye view of the whole village.

Undoubtedly,
there are a lot of delicious dishes, but all the year round, they are the
same. More and more students are complaining about eating the same food
each day. So I think the most urgent problem is variety.
Secondly, the price is a bit too high. Many of us hope that the canteen
can provide us with not only delicious but also cheaper food.
So I think if our university offers them better conditions, they will offer
us better service.
Best wishes,
            Yours sincerely,
                   Liming

Student Use of Computers
范文:
Students tend to use computers more and more nowadays. Reading this
chart, we can find that the average number of hours a student spends on
the computer per week has increased sharply. In 1990, it was less than
2 hours; and in 1995, it increased to almost 4 hours; while in 2000, the
number soared to 20 hours.
Obviously computers are becoming more and more popular. There are
several reasons for this. First, computers facilitate us in more aspects
of life. Also, the fast development of the Internet enlarges our demands
for using computers. We can easily contact with friends in remote places
through the Internet. Besides, the prices of computers are getting lower
and lower, which enables more students to purchase them.
Along with the time spent on computers, there arise some problems.
The most serious one is that many students are spending so much time
playing PC games so that they ignore their studies. It is urgent to let
the students use computers in a proper way.

It Pays to Be Honest
范文:
Although honesty is believed to be a virtue, there are still dishonest
people in our society. For example, some businessmen sell fake product
to their consumers; some students cheat in the exams.
Dishonest people are short-sighted. Those who sell fake products may
make money at first, but consumers won’t buy their products any more.
As a result, they will lose their fortune or even be sent to prison. By
contrast, honest people gain a lot.
Those who always tell truth or keep to their promise not only let
others trust them but gain respect from other people as well. Such persons
are sure to have a lot of good friends. Because they are trustable and
respectable, everyone is eager to make friends with them, Besides, it is
easier for a person with a good record to get a good job. Generally speaking,
every employer wants his employees to be honest. So we can say that anyone
who is honest will be paid back later.
In a word, honesty wins trust, respect and honor. So it is important
that we should be honest.

An Eye-Witness Account of a Traffic Accident
范文:
My name is Liming. I am studying at college. A week ago I saw a traffic
accident , which is still vivid in my mind.
It was at about 9:00 on Saturday morning, June 15th, when I went out
of the university to visit a friend of mine at another university. I was
walking leisurely on the sidewalk when I heard a loud crash of two vehicles
just at the T-junction about 10 meters away. Two taxis crashed together.
It was a traffic accident.
I went up and found that the two taxis were badly damaged. Both hoofs
were out of shape. One door of a car was knocked off and lying on the road.
One driver was blooding and another was shut in the taxi. Some people were
trying to help the driver get out of the damaged car. One man was calling
to the traffic policeman station. A lot of cars were jammed on the road.
From the stopping track on the road, it is clear that the two taxis
were driving too fast. But it is just one of the reasons. In my opinion,
the taxi drivers are eager to take more passengers and make a little more
money. On the other hand, both drivers don't show concern for one another.
Both of them wanted to run in front of another. Therefore, the accident
is inevitable. So far, we should let the drivers keep it in their mind
that a little slower, a little safer. Taking care of other's lives means
taking care of your own life.

During the SARS period in this spring, the year of 2003, one of my
classmates, Li ming, was struck down by the virus and was immediately sent
to hospital.
The news spread quickly on campus. At first, we were terrified and
wondered if we were infected too. However, through our government's
publicity on mass media, we gradually conquered the fear and set out to
try out best to help her. Some teachers provided darly necessities while
some students recorded the English class contents for him so that Li ming
could not be left behind. With our care and concern, Li ming recovered
quickly.
Such an incident teaches us a good moral. Our society is full of love,

范文:
December 27, 2003
Dear
When it comes to which major you should choose, I propose that you
apply for the major of English. To begin with, English is the most popular
language in the world, which is widely used in all fields such as teaching,
translation, foreign trade and so on. What’s more, it goes without saying
that English majors are more likely to find a good job in the tighter and
tighter job market.
In order to study at English Department, you have to meet the following
requirements. In the first place, you have to spend a lot of time on it,
just as the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”. In the second
place, the basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking are
necessary, because they are the foundations for your future study. Last
but not the least important, you need an intense interest in learning
English since “interest is the best teacher.”
As far as the preparation work is concerned, you should first of all
review all the required vocabulary. In addition, you’d better spend some
time on reading and writing. Only through these measures can you hope to
enroll in our university.

1. 有些大学允许学生自由选择某些课程的任课教师2. 学生选择教师时所考虑的主要因素3. 学生自选任课教师的益处和可能产生的问题 On Students Selecting Lecturers 参考范文: On Students Selecting Lectures At present, as educational reform finds its way into campuses, some universities and colleges begin to permit students to select their lecturers freely.

2009年12月题

1. 建设绿色校园十分重要2.绿色校园不仅指绿色环境3.为了建设绿色校园我们应该

2. 2010年6月题 1. 现在大学生读双学位的现象很常见2. 我对这一现象的看法 【范文】Recently it has become a common phenomenon for college students to have two majors at the same time.

2010年12月题 How should Parents Help Children to Be independent? 1、 目前不少父母为孩子包办一切2、 为了孩子独立,父母应该…… 范文如下: How should parents help children to be independent?

96. 1 The Two-day Weekend

The two-day weekend has brought a lot of benefits to college students. It not only offers us more time to get rid of tiredness and have a good rest, but also gives us more chances to take up some hobbies, such as fishing, reading, or gardening. From these activities we can learn many things outside the classroom, which will add to our knowledge.

Despite the convenience it brings us, the two-day weekend has also given rise to quite a few problems. The most serious one is that the weekdays are filled with more lesson, sometimes too many. Because our classes are limited to Monday through Friday, we have to take more lessons each day than in the past. This leaves us little time to catch our breath during the weekdays.

In order to benefit most from the two-day weekend, I have decided to make a good plan for the two-day weekend. Of course I should take this chance to relax. But during the weekend, I will still set aside enough time to study. By doing so ii can have a good time as well as make progress in my studies.

96. 6 Global Shortage of Fresh Water

Many people believe that the world’s supply of fresh water will never be used up. They think that fresh water comes from such a variety of sources that it is always sufficient for use. Such an opinion leads to a shocking waste of water.

As a matter of fact, the earth is short of fresh water. Furthermore, with the rapid growth of the world’s population, the rising demand for water by industry, and the serious pollution of our surroundings, the world is facing the danger of running out of fresh water. Actually, in some big cities, fresh water cannot meet the daily needs.

Therefore, to find new ways to save water is an urgent task. First, we should pass strict laws to control any waste of water. Second, scientists must work even harder to purify sea water and polluted water, and try to find substitutes to reduce the use of fresh water.

97.1 Practice Makes Perfect

The famous saying “Practice makes perfect” is widely accepted today. It means if we practice unfamiliar things again and again, we’ll be able to perform it perfectly.

The practice of learning English is a good example. We are not living in an English speaking country. So, in order to learn it well, we need extra practice, such as reading English books, going to English corners, or communicating with foreigners. Only sitting at the desk cannot lead to the mastery of English.

As another example, if we want to be skilled in using the computer, we also need to practice using it. Some children become little experts in computer, just because they play with it everyday. On the contrary, if we just stick to books, we will still feel confused when using computers. Judging from the evidence offered, we might safely draw the conclusion that practice makes perfect.

97.6 Getting to Know the World Outside the Campus

With the rapid development of society, it is essential for college students to get to know the world outside the campus. There are a variety of reasons why we should do that. The primary one is that we can expand our horizons. Nowadays, as students, our knowledge is mostly derived from books, which is really limited. Only through contact with society will we learn more practical things. Second, it will enable us to be more sophisticated after graduation. Finally, knowing the world outside the campus may awaken in us a high sense of duty and help us make greater achievements in the future.

As is known to all, there are many ways we can know the society, such as through community service or keeping informed through TV, radio or newspapers.

As a university student, I will read newspapers and magazines to enrich my knowledge and do some volunteer work for the community or take up a part-time job in my spare time so that I can learn from my experience and prepare for my future work.

98. 1 Harmfulness of Fake Commodities

In recent years, a lot of fake commodities have appeared in the market. These fake commodities have done great harm to the consumers and the society.

Since the policy of reform was implemented, China’s economy has improved. A lot of people getting richer, and their living conditions are getting better. But still some of them are not satisfied. They dream of getting rich overnight and living a heavenly life, which, of course, is impossible to achieve by fair means. So they risk breaking the law to produce the market take commodities.

Once these fake commodities enter the market, they will do immeasurable harm to the society. The direct victims are the consumers. As the quality of the fake commodities is always very poor, the consumers may suffer great losses. Certain fake commodities, such as food and medicine, will cause irreparable harm to the health and well-being of the consumers. Fake commodities also cut into the profits of the brand-name-owners. Since the fake ones are cheaper, people tend to be reluctant to buy the genuine ones.

98.6 Do "Lucky Numbers" Really Bring Good Luck?

Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring them good luck. For instance, the so-called lucky number “8” is widely used now because it is sounded like “getting rich” in Chinese and is believed to bring good fortune.

Yet many others don’t think so. They think that numbers have nothing to do with luck. They regard numbers simply as a mathematic symbols for counting. They are anything but a mystery. They laugh at those who think numbers can bring good luck.

I’m in favor of the latter opinion. I think our society is very modern now. We mustn’t count on the so-called lucky numbers to fulfill our wishes. Whether we can have good luck depends on ourselves. If we work hard, good luck will come to us.

99. 1 Don ' t Hesitate to Say "NO"

In our daily life, there are many occasions on which we should not hesitate to refuse when asked for help. For one thing, when it is beyond our ability, we should give a direct reply “no”. For another, we the thing we are asked for is unreasonable or even illegal, we should say “no” without hesitation.

it is not the case in our real life. Many people prefer to say “yes” when they should say “no”. Some are afraid to lose their face, since they think refusal means their inability. Some people are afraid to offend their acquaintances’ face, such as their friends, relatives and so on.

In fact, doing so is quite harmful. If you agree to do the things beyond your ability, the result will only be worse. The other might as well have asked another person who can help. And if you agree to do the unreasonable or even the illegal favors, such as cheating in the exam, you are in fact not helping the other but hurting him. You yourself will get into trouble too.

99. 6 Reading Selectively or Extensively?

Some people think when we read we should read selectively. That is to say, we should select some books we are interested in and ignore the others. Reading selectively can help us concentrate our limited time and attention on those selected books.

Others think we should read extensively. No matter what kind of book it is, we should look it over. We should read various kinds of books, whether we are interested in them or not. They maintain that reading extensively can help to enlarge our view and grasp the general knowledge in different fields.

In my opinion, the two reading ways have their roles respectively in our reading. However, the disadvantages of each methods are easy to see. If we only read the books we select or prefer, the framework of our knowledge may not be complete. Our knowledge would be rather limited. And if we read without selection, we may not have so much time and energy to be specialized in one particular field. Therefore, the combination of the two methods is more reasonable.

2000.1 How I Finance My College Education

Several years ago new tuition fee policy was put into practice and college students were asked to pay a certain sum of money. And now, all the students, no matter what subjects they are engaged in, must pay for tuition.

There are many ways for a student to finance his college education. Most students ask their parents to pay the tuition fee and pay for their books, accommodation and other cost. A student can also apply for the scholarship. Most universities set up scholarship to offer money to the poor students who do well in entrance exams and reward those who do well in entrance exams and reward those who work well at university. A student can also apply for the low-interest loans. In addition to the above, taking part-time jobs is also a common way for a college student to get money to pay part of his tuition and fees.

So far as I’m concerned, I’d prefer earning the scholarship. This means I must study hard and be a top student, which has always been my goal. After all, the task of a student is to study. And in addition to solving my financial problems, getting the scholarship can also prove my ability and is good for my future.

2000.6 Is A Test of Spoken English Necessary?

A test of spoken English will be included as an optional (component of the College English Test (CET). Some people contend that it is absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because we have been told many times that a Chinese student who has been learning English for years cannot communicate with a native English speaker. Sometimes even those top students who excel at grammar and writing skills find their English inadequate to express their thoughts freely when speaking. A test of spoken English will bring the importance of speaking English to the awareness of the college students, and thus help them with their communicating skills.

On the other hand, there are also people who maintain that good reading and writing skills would be enough for the average English learners. College students are already under considerable pressure from their coursework. Another required test will only add to their burden. Also, some students may take the shortcut and only practice the questions according to the fixed format of the test, which will not actually improve their spoken English.

I believe that a test of spoken English will do more good than harm. Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability to speak fluent English is a must for anyone who wants to surpass others in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall make all efforts to practice my spoken English in the rest years in college.

2001.1 How to Succeed in a Job Interview?

Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right person for the company. On the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take up, the salary, the working conditions and many other things about the job he is interested in.

Therefore, the job interview is very important to a job-hunter. But how can one succeed in it?

Firstly of all, the interviewee must pay attention to his or her appearance. The first impression is always where we start. Get dressed properly and neatly. Secondly, good manners are equally important. Don’t be too proud, and neither too timid. Just be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude and skills for the job and his knowledge about eh job-related areas. Be confident. Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty is the best policy.

To sum up, the job interview is indeed important, but there is no need to be nervous. As long as the interviewee has the ability for the job, with careful preparation and a fairly confident and honest performance, his or her success can be ensured.

2001. 6 A letter to a Schoolmate

Dear Xiao Wang,

I’m delighted to learn that you are going to visit me during the week-long vacation. My parents will also be happy to see you again. I’m sure you will enjoy every minute here.

I know you are fond of swimming. A river lies not far away from my home. We can go swimming there. I think it would be very pleasant and refreshing to swim in such hot summer days. In every big room of my home there is an air-conditioner. We can watch TV, play CDs or read books very comfortably at home.

A mountain about two miles away from here is beautiful and it is worth touring. We can go there on foot. When we climb to the top of the mountain, we can have a wonderful bird-eye view of the whole village.

Just phone me before you set off. There is no need for you to take anything. I’ll prepare everything for you.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

2002.1 A Letter to the University President about the Canteen Service on Campus

Dear Mr. President,

I’m very lucky to attend this world-famous university, but I’m afraid I’m not content with the canteen service on campus.

Firstly, the quality of the dishes should be improved. Undoubtedly, there are a lot of delicious dishes, but all the year round, they are the same. More and more students are complaining about eating the same food each day. So I think the most urgent problem is variety.

Secondly, the price is a bit too high. Many of us hope that the canteen can provide us with not only delicious but also cheaper food.

Finally, the environment is so noisy that we can’t enjoy our meals in good mood. I suggest that there be some soft music to help us relax.

These suggestions are not just of my own, but also of may other students. We hope our respectable president will pay attention to our suggestions.

By the way, the canteen workers are very patient and always smiling. So I think if our university offers them better conditions, they will offer us better service.

Best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Liming

2002. 6 Student Use of Computers

Students tend to use computers more and more nowadays. Reading this chart, we can find that the average number of hours a student spends on the computer per week has increased sharply. In 1990, it was less than 2 hours; and in 1995, it increased to almost 4 hours; while in 2000, the number soared to 20 hours.

Obviously computers are becoming more and more popular. There are several reasons for this. First, computers facilitate us in more aspects of life. Also, the fast development of the Internet enlarges our demands for using computers. We can easily contact with friends in remote places through the Internet. Besides, the prices of computers are getting lower and lower, which enables more students to purchase them.

Along with the time spent on computers, there arise some problems. The most serious one is that many students are spending so much time playing PC games so that they ignore their studies. It is urgent to let the students use computers in a proper way.

2002.12 It pays to Be Honest

Although honesty is believed to be a virtue, there are still dishonest people in our society. For example, some businessmen sell fake product to their consumers; some students cheat in the exams.

Dishonest people are short-sighted. Those who sell fake products may make money at first, but consumers won’t buy their products any more. As a result, they will lose their fortune or even be sent to prison. By contrast, honest people gain a lot.

Those who always tell truth or keep to their promise not only let others trust them but gain respect from other people as well. Such persons are sure to have a lot of good friends. Because they are trustable and respectable, everyone is eager to make friends with them, Besides, it is easier for a person with a good record to get a good job. Generally speaking, every employer wants his employees to be honest. So we can say that anyone who is honest will be paid back later.

In a word, honesty wins trust, respect and honor. So it is important that we should be honest.

2003.9 The Day My Classmate Fell Ill (or Got Injured)

During the SARS period in this spring, the year of 2003, one of my classmates, Li ming, was struck down by the virus and was immediately sent to hospital.

The news spread quickly on campus. At first, we were terrified and wondered if we were infected too. However, through our government's publicity on mass media, we gradually conquered the fear and set out to try out best to help her. Some teachers provided darly necessities while some students recorded the English class contents for him so that Li ming could not be left behind. With our care and concern, Li ming recovered quickly.

Such an incident teaches us a good moral. Our society is full of love, warm and peaceful, in which people-from man to woman, from individual to individual-lend others a hand. Just like a famous song goes, "the world will turn itto heaven only if everyone contributes a little." and I do believe that it's my great honor to live in this love-filled paradise.

2003.12 A Letter of Reply to a Friend

1.建议报考的专业及理由;

2.报考该专业的基本条件;

3.应当如何备考。

Dear friend,

When it comes to which major you should choose, I propose that you apply for the major of English. To begin with, English is the most popular language in the world, which is widely used in all fields such as teaching, translation, foreign trade and so on. What’s more, it goes without saying that English majors are more likely to find a good job in the tighter and tighter job market.

In order to study at English Department, you have to meet the following requirements. In the first place, you have to spend a lot of time on it, just as the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”. In the second place, the basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking are necessary, because they are the foundations for your future study. Last but not the least important, you need an intense interest in learning English since “interest is the best teacher.”

As far as the preparation work is concerned, you should first of all review all the required vocabulary. In addition, you’d better spend some time on reading and writing. Only through these measures can you hope to enroll in our university.

Yours,

xiaoming

2004.6 A brief introduction to a tourist attraction

Good morning, ladies and gentleman, welcome to Beijing. To begin with, I would like to introduce myself: I am the tourist guide from China Travel Service and it’s great honor to stay here with all of you for a whole day. Just as the old saying goes, “It is always a pleasure to greet a friend from afar”, I wish all of you to enjoy yourselves during this trip.

The following is schedule of the day. The first spot we are going to visit is the Great Wall, the grandest fortification in ancient China. The next sight to look around is the Ming Tombs, which is one of the best-preserved tombs for 13 emperors in Ming Dynasty more than one thousand years ago. In the afternoon, we will go for the Summer Palace, the royal park for Chinese ancient emperors.

Currently we are on the way to the Great Wall. Dating back to the seven century B.C., the Great Wall is constructed by respective states for fortifying against invasion of neighboring states. By the reasons of long history and its length, it becomes one of the eight wonders in the world and represents the highest wisdom and crafts. From the top of the Great Wall, we can enjoy a magnificent view of continuous mountains, green trees and blooming wild flowers. It is no doubt that one says, “He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man”。

Above is my introduction to the Great Wall. If any of you have questions, please feel free to ask me at any time.

2005年6月18 Teacher’s Day :

  1. 向老师致以节日的问候。

  2. 回忆一件老师的教诲中难忘的事情。

  3. 我如何报答老师。

This is Teachers’ Day and a time to be grateful to all teachers. This profession deserves the special recognition and respect. There is no more appropriate time than this to honor you and others in your chosen field. You have my eternal gratefulness. Have a happy Teachers’ Day.

The whole secret of the teacher’s force lies in the conviction that men are convertible. Teacher, who educate children, deserve more honor than parents, who merely gave them birth; for the latter provided more life, while the former ensure a good life. What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soul.

My heartfelt thanks to you, dear teacher. On the voyage of life, you have kindled the light of hope for me. What you have done enriches my mind and broadens my view. On this day I honor you sincerely. No one deserves a bigger thank you than you. One day is hardly enough to show our gratitude.

2005年12月Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists?

1.名校校园正成为旅游新热点

2.校园是否应对游客开放,人们看法不同

3.我认为……

In modern era, there are quantities of people having started to suggest that our famous campus should be opened to our tourists from different places while others suggest not. This problem has caused a heated discussion in our society.

People's attitude towards this phenomenon varies widely. Many people

maintain that our campus has its regular arrangement for students’ daily study and life. Therefore, we shouldn’t disturb to some extent. So they think that our campus can’t be opened to all. However, as every sword has two edges, others argue that opening campus to tourists is feasible. Every famed college has a long history with which every foreigner acquaint themselves.

All in all, my personal view is that, as the latter above, our campus should be opened widely. This will make more people know our culture and history. Therefore, if we start to manage it properly, our college will be led to a more harmonic and splendid environment in the near future.

1、许多人喜欢在除夕夜观看春节晚会;2、但有些人提出取消春节晚会;3、你的看法

Besides, with such a gathering, family members will have a perfect opportunity to enjoy more fun and happiness, for nowadays most people are so engaged in their daily businesses that they can rarely find any extra time to stay with their family, which, if not properly adjusted, might add further to the already worsening situation of the values of Chinese families.

2007年12月What Electives To Choose

1. 各学校开了各种各样的选修课

  2. 学生选课有不同的原因

  3. 就我而言

2008年6月21日Recreational activities

2006年6月四级作文题目

1. 有些大学允许学生自由选择某些课程的任课教师

2. 学生选择教师时所考虑的主要因素

3. 学生自选任课教师的益处和可能产生的问题

2006年12月题

许多人喜欢看cctv 春节晚会;2、但有的人认为应该取消; 3、你的看法

1. 各学校开了各种各样的选修课 2. 学生选课有不同的原因 3. 就我而言

1.一次性塑料袋的使用 2.使用一次性塑料袋带来的问题 3.限制使用一次性塑料袋的意义

1、越来越多的博物馆对公众免费开放

2、有人认为是会造成不利影响 3、我的看法是

2009年12月题

1、建设绿色校园十分重要 2.绿色校园不仅指绿色环境 3.为了建设绿色校园我们应该

1. 现在大学生读双学位的现象很常见

2. 我对这一现象的看法

2010年12月题

1、 目前不少父母为孩子包办一切 2、 为了孩子独立,父母应该……
